Anyone got there

head on and can explain exactly what this means?

It's basically taking the head off, and machining it to reduce the resistance it presents to gas flow. It's not economical for the manufacturer to match all the ports exactly, remove all rough edges and polish the inside. Doing so will increase the performance of the engine.

It is possible to do this yourself if you are feeling keen. There are lots of "how to" guides on the subject I'm sure.

A bit like I used to do to my Yam FS1E in the late 70s then.

Increased the bhp by about ... 0.

MikeyT, Yes, just like that, only I had a Malaguti (7.2bhp std) which when breathed on revved to 12K instead of 8K and produced over 10bhp. Got stopped by plod doing 72mph in a 50 and got away with it 'but its only a moped officer!'

Once had 60 out of the FS1E's replacement, the famed Suzuki AP50 R reg (1976) one of the last 'ungoverned' ones bought s/hand from Trevor Goodalls in Didcot, Oxon. Paid £250.

Blimey, those were the days eh?
