New HADECS3 speed camera on M62
Discussion
In case you folks haven't yet clocked it, there's a newly installed HADECS3 speed camera on the M62 eastbound just before the M621 slip. It's on the gantry with the HADECS2 cameras and looks like this -

I went for a reccy on my way home from work this morning and there's 2 more sprung up! Next one is about half way between J27 and J28 eastbound, just before it drops down into the dip. They are really well hidden behind the support post on this gantry and you'd only know it's there if you're specifically looking for it. The other one is on the westbound carriageway between J28 and J27, just in the dip after Tingley. There's no others westbound between the M1 and Huddersfield that I could see, just that single one after Tingley.

For the uninitiated what are the implications of this? Lovely tassels in your piccy btw.
It's not my pic - I just typed in HADECS3 to google images and it was one of the first ones that appeared. The implications are that if you go faster than the speed limit you could get a ticket.

They might be on at all times, but you don't get a ticket for doing an indicated 80 through them if the signs are off.
Do you want to be our local guinea pig to see what speed they're set to trigger at then? This guy apparently done by the HADECS3 ones on the M25 at Clackett Lane whilst doing 96mph, so they do seem to work when NSL.
And they're seemingly fully functioning when a reduced limit is in force too.

Do these cameras work like average speed cameras too? Is that why they are often installed in two or threes in close proximity? Or are they just like a gatso so you only have to worry about obeying the speed limit for a short distance in the cameras range?
Just where the camera is. Can't enforce an average when every gantry displays a different temporary limit.Just a heads up for you guys on the M62, there's a 4th HADECS3 camera currently being installed westbound just after J27 at the start of the downhill bit (same gantry as the eastbound camera). The shelf for the cameras has been installed and camera pole 200 yds before the actual HADECS camera to record the speeds being displayed is nearly finished too so I reckon it'll be up and running within the next couple of weeks. There's a load being installed on the M1 around the 3 Wakefield junctions too .

I go through that section every Monday at around 5.45am, I set the cruise to an indicated 80-83mph and I've never been flashed. (variable limit not in force)
I'm not the only one travelling at that speed so if they really wanted to "do us" then I'd have been done ages ago.
The HADECS2 cameras above the lanes don't work at all, ie. don't work as in not nailing you for exceeding speed limit. I have been travelling in vehicles on that stretch that have been doing well over a ton so I can say this with 100% certainty. They do occasionally flash but that's all they do.I'm not the only one travelling at that speed so if they really wanted to "do us" then I'd have been done ages ago.
The new HADECS3 cameras sat on the shelf at the side of the gantry are too new to know for sure, but judging by the number of speeding cases posted on pepipoo by people that have been caught by the one on the M25 Clackett Lane when no temporary limit was displayed, I'm inclined to believe that the new ones on the M62 are probably set up the same way although I've not personally seen any of them flash yet.

My understanding is that there is a camera on a single post about 200m before the picture on this post and they work together.
There is. You can clearly see it before each of the gantries that has the new HADECS3 cameras fitted. It's a post with 3 CCTV-style cameras mounted side by side with about 6" between them.insurance_jon said:

I've heard from a mate that there will be one just before junction 40 going southbound at some point and now all the extra sticking out brackets are there ready for the cameras
this fecker got meThe 5th set is now installed on the westbound gantry just before Hartshead Moor MSA.
Last night I clocked both of the new HADECS3 cameras working on the gantry just before/after the M621 split. I was westbound and clocked a car coming East at a fair rate of knots trigger the new camera on the shelf at the side of the gantry (the old HADECS2 ones above each lane didn't flash) and then westbound there was a marked cop car on blues coming flying past doing I'd say around around 100mph and that triggered the new camera on that side too. First time I've seen the new ones working. The double flash from them is super bright.
