Purely out of curiosity do you guys get a daily meal allowance so you can eat in restaurants?

I had a feeling that might be the case, must be annoying travelling all over Europe and not being able to try out the local cuisine

Why wouldn't you be able to do that? You still get paid, money on the credit card etc.

Although I know that the foreign guys that take all our jobs here (Sweden) don't get paid alot, like 1/3 of what I get paid, so thats why they're hired I suppose.
I only wondered if it was a perk of the job, or did they have to stock up the fridge on the truck (if they have one, i have absolutely no knowledge about driving jobs)

No, I cook my own food, my truck has a built in fridge which makes carrying food easier.
I personally am salaried, I get a set amount every week, if I have to do 3 drops I get extra, if I get pissed about I get extra, if I change my own wheel I get extra, if I have a ferrybreak I get extra.
Most drivers do it because they prefer driving in Europe to driving in the UK.
British lorry drivers are in the minority now, I travel abroad every week and some weeks mine is the only brit truck on the ferry.
TBH I could earn more money in the UK but detest driving here.
Thanks for the insight Mike, if i could ask another question. How long would it take to take a load from say, Edinburgh to Carcassonne. In the car I think we could do it with a night stop over. Just curios as to how much the different speed limits affect things. I would hazard a guess that it would take 2 stopovers for you guys.
