Am I too old at 51 to take my full bike test?

I did take my CBT in my late 20's with a plan to take my full bike test but never continued for one reason and another.

Then 2 years ago my girlfriends Mum asked me to sell her Vespa ET2, following a stoke which meant she couldn't get it off the stand. I'd done a few jobs (i.e.changed the battery) on the bike over the years for her. She bought it off a family friend in 2004 when it was 3 month old and kept it all that time. She had every MOT certificate, service receipt, etc. and it was in very good condition with only 4k miles. So I bought it and use it to pop around town time all the time, rarely using my car in the summer.

Then after visiting Annecy and Chamonix in the summer and seeing all the touring bikes, it sort of piqued my interest in perhaps taking my full test and getting a bigger bike.

Anyone else taken their full test in their 50's? No..... it's not a mid-life crisis!

Well I finally did by CBT last Monday and passed (although I understand it is very difficult to fail but a guy on my course almost did after pulling out of a junction in front of a car!)

The plan was to progress straight to a larger bike test. However, the school I used really recommended purchasing a 125cc and driving that for several months. Then look into the larger bike lessons/tests. My initial thoughts were not to buy a 125cc but now I am leaning more towards this route.

I was chatting to two other guys on the course who were taking their MOD1/MOD2 tests the day after my CBT. Both had completed their CBT's 3-4 months before and had not ridden since starting their lessons on a larger bike before progressing to their tests after 3-4 days. I've since found out both failed, not sure whether their MOD1 or MOD2.

Given that I've a few things on over the next month or so, then I'd struggle to store a bike over the winter months, leaning more towards buying a 125cc next spring, driving it for several months then start the process of larger bike lessons/tests.

Quite like the look of the Yamaha XSR125 at the moment. Did my CBT on a CBF125 but was after something a little more exciting!
