I bought this one from Amazon based on someone here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CNTJK8HB?ref=ppx_yo2... (even cheaper now) Really like the edge it gives, easy to use and can use these replaceable discs here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CPM5FVF4/?coliid=I3V...

Having spent years sharpening cut throat razors with Japanese stones to great effect, I've tried using some of my lower grit stones but takes a while, with a family of 5 I just don't have the time to spend sharpening my chef's knife.
I've had great success using this Rolling Knife Sharpener.
That's the exact one I bought.
FWIW it works pretty well. If I have a criticism I would say maybe the magnets could be a bit stronger but honestly it's fine.
Price has dropped a bit since I bought it grumpy

Got mine delivered last night. It exposed how poor some of my knives were (TBF the 'family' knives, not mine smile )

I think I'm about to take the plunge with a HORL 2. I'm a complete novice but have some nice Wusthof knives I want to keep in good condition.

I've read a few reviews that suggest the Tumbler is just as good, and others saying the HORL is the go to and don't be fooled by the "lesser" quality product (buy cheap, buy twice kind of thing).

I have no problems with the cost....but I like to get value for money. HORL 2 or otherwise....what say the wise sharpeners of Pistonheads who have experience of either or both ?

I have no intention of going to a wet stone and improving my skills, I want something that is easy and idiot proof. I've tried various pull through sharpeners but frankly, none of them have impressed me.
From what I've seen the Tumbler discs are not replaceable therefore different grit sizes not available. I would avoid. There are others on the market cheaper than the Horl2 that do interchangeable discs but I've no idea on their quality.

Mine, a minute or so each side on the fine side of the roller. Hers? Still work in progress, but much, much longer. She creates serrated blades where none formerly existed so it might not be a helpful test because they need a re-grind to get a proper edge, but they are much better. Would recommend.

does anyone have any fancy natural Japanese stones?? looking to take my first steps into the expensive world of natural stones
Apart from the obvious https://www.japanesenaturalstones.com I only go by what I have read online. Way out of my expertise and budget!

I use generic 2000/5000 stone off Amazon.

Have to ask though... what are you sharpening?

Anyone able to recommend a suitable product for sharpening garden secateurs, loppers and hand hedge cutter blades please? Any that would double up as suitable for kitchen knives too?

That's a similar tool to the one I use.

Felco has its own wee diamond stone and a couple of good videos on how to service and sharpen its secateurs which are worth watching.

Recommendations please

I'm after a sharpener for a Victorinox kitchen knife set, woodturning tools, wood chisels, wood hand planes, optional; if it could do the blades on a thicknesser that would be great.
No brainer for me.............

https://tormek.com/en/knowledge/the-tormek-way-of-...

T4 or T8 but they are pricey and there are much cheaper alternatives like mine...........

Took the plunge, bought a second hand, but almost as new, Tormek T7. Came with a load of jigs inc wood turners, rotating base and a fine diamond grinding wheel. Man does it make easy work of straight edge tools, + got a good edge on the knife pictured above but more practice required.

I found my old Multisharp in the shed and went over all the knives. They are all way sharper than the minosharp can do.
