Exactly, why not be upfront and say we broke it, he was going to find out especially with it filling with water.
Well if they had sealed it correctly then I expect he never would have found out.

Unless he crashed it, or decided to modify it.

OK, it's £750 to replace which probably wipes out any profit on the job (if it wasn't discounted already), but the guy has millions of viewers so you just have to suck it up and treat it as good PR.

or take it on the chin as a cost of making a mistake.

I suspect had they called Mat and said we've broken this light but reckon we can seal it back up again he probably would have been fine with that.

I would expect him to mention that they fessed-up, and Mat would probably also say that he would just have used some TigerSeal smile .

Completely this, with the bonus of no reputational risk.

It’s not needing to know right and left, it’s near side (kerb) and off side (middle of the road).

Been like this on cars for decades and works very well.

GT3 video.
Except that Porsche (and many other manufacturers) use Left and Right in their catalogues.

Love that colour though, looks fantastic.

I haven't re watched the video, but do they mention the name of the bodyshop? Personally I would be annoyed if this had happened to my vehicle and they tried to cover it up. Surely they know who he is, and I assume given the huge audience, could make or break a small company and it wouldn't be worth been 'outed' on Youtube, with potentially millions of views of your target audience?

Yes, he clearly shows the car parked outside with company name visable.

Yes. I used to write parts lists, and we always used LEFT and RIGHT (when viewed from the rear), as it avoids confusion with LHD and RHD vehicles.

The assumption in this thread seems to be that the person in charge and/or owner knew about the damage and repair. It could have been an employee, who tried to correct their mistake. In which case, the company wouldn't have known until they got the phone call from Mat. They didn't necessarily try to cover it up.

so that is the way now then, stand at the back looking at the rear of the car left (near side) right (off side) but when ordering you use left hand, right hand instead of what you used to get on MOT's?

Sounds like a recipe for disaster, so if you're stood at the front the near side is 'right' and if you are stood a the back it's 'left'...so if you want a front and back light for the same side one is a left and the other a right? silly

Perhaps the automotive industry should adopt port and starboard. Seems to have worked reasonably well for the navy.

Fair point. If that's the case, I'm guessing someone's had a massive bking. hehe

Why is it so hard for some people to understand left and right? When an object has a clearly defined front and rear then left and right don't change depending on the viewpoint of the observer. Your right hand is always your right hand regardless of where you look at it from.

Stand looking at the front of a car, the passenger is sat on the right hand side, stand looking a the back of a car....the passenger is now sat on the left. wink

From the viewers perspective only. The passenger is always sitting on the same side of the car. If the passenger is sitting in the left hand seat then you don't start calling it the right hand seat when you look at it from a different angle.

Left and right sides are always as if you are sat in the car facing forward. Common sense, really.

Yes we clearly don't know the full story, although either way someone messed up.

Mat seems to want to down play it and maybe 'lessons will be learned' and all that.
