I was in PA/NY (inc Long Island and Manhatten) and NJ over the last few days. Not much visible support for Biden or Trump anywhere
Biden's not got cult followers, unlike trump trucks, boats, flags on lawns etc

Any gained the defence made against Cohen werewolves out by Costello today. He lied in court and was shown to be lying as emails were produced.

"...they left with the jury the following. Michael Cohen said, I really didn't trust Mr. Costello. I essentially thought he was a little sleazy and that he was working for Giuliani and Trump, so I didn't want to give them anything that's going to hurt me in the end. So that's very understandable.

And when Costello took the stand, Kaitlan, and he acted the way he did — in my 30, 35 years of practicing law as a prosecutor and a defense attorney, I've never ever seen that, he insulted the judge. And frankly, Kaitlan, he insulted the jury."

They blew it with Costello. They made Cohen look credible, the opposite of what they wanted to do

I am in a Republican area of California and there is a Trump stand nearby. Back in 2016 and 2020 they were doing a roaring trade. This time? Nah, they arent even keeping the light on. Its barely open, there is no trade and even the cheap Chinese flags they try to sell (unironically of course) are fading in the sun.

Embarrassed? Lack of interest? Dont want to be associated with either one? Multitude of reasons, but yeah, very little support for either. I see more Ukrainian flags than anything else.
I wonder if Federal politics is just so divisive that people don't bother with public displays any more - I can imagine it causes friction within families and so on in a way it didn't in the past. The areas we were in are going to have a good amount of support for both candidates, or be close to areas who will likely vote the other way.

Did see some lawn signs for local politicians but not like in the past.

At a guess something like "Any gains made by the defence against Cohen were spoiled by Costello's testimony"

The common trait of conmen I have known - and I've known several - is how agreeable they are; invariably agreeable. If Trump had gone into that courtroom, smiled and shrugged his shoulders in a 'Well, here we are' kind of way he would be a lot better off now than by threatening everyone.

Surely the jury have to be careful to try and avoid the news a bit during a trial like that? So they wouldn’t necessarily know. Though no doubt one of them will, and then get tricked by some sleazebag journalist into admitting it, and then Trump gets an appeal avenue. Which could be why he’s being such an arse.

He'll appeal it anyway, if convicted.

If he does, he'll slow up the sentencing phase as much as possible, then appeal regardless of sentence.

Of course, he could be sentenced just in time fir the debates if he's not careful biggrin

Stuff's coming out about the stolen documents case.

This entire opinion from Judge Howell assessing the evidence prosecutors presented on trump's "willful retention" of classified docs and efforts to obstruct the probe is extraordinary.

She described Nauta as "dissembling" in his FBI interview as well.
https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscour...

Judge Howell also found last year that prosecutors provided sufficient evidence that trump sought to hide classified documents from prosecutors. It was part of her ruling granting crime-fraud exception to attorney-client privilege

Also, theres a new unsealed filing in trump Florida case says there were two rounds of classified documents discovered at Mar-a-Lago *after* the FBI search.

The doc was unsealed because trumps lawyers used it trying anther hail maty to get the case dismissed, appended it to their claim of prosecutorial misconduct. They cited this footnote in which Howell quotes a procedural text.

Instead it's opened a can of worms, more evidence trump hid even more documents than was found in the FBI search

It included the details that they found more docs 4 months after the FBI search, docs he'd hidden away. trump even had four classified docs in his own bedroom that his lawyer found in December 2022.
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/21/trump-cla...

We already knew trump had an aide scanning the docs, confirmed in the unsealed docs
"A witness connected to trump’s Save America PAC scanned and stored documents from the box containing those materials on a laptop provided by the PAC,"

Own goal by trump lawyers?

ABC News reporting that that Special Counsel Jack Smith believed trump “instructed aides to return several boxes they had previously removed from a storage room in the magalardo club’s basement without being caught on camera.”

Future obstruction
https://abcnews.go.com/US/special-counsel-suspecte...

After trump attorney Evan Corcoran informed trump of the subpoena for video footage on 24 Jun, 2022, Nauta rushed back to magalardo. trump realised that the removal of the boxes from the storage room was on camera and any subsequent movement of the boxes back to the storage room could occur off camera, hence there's no footage of the boxes being returned, or moved after that...

Lots of criticism of Judge Cannons delays over what should have been the have been the most straightforward criminal prosecution of the four against trump.

i.e.

and
No wonder Cannons stalling the case for trump, trying to hide his crimes from the electorate
