Such a shame what happened in Iran. In the 60s it was a progressive and free country.

Search for photos from the 60s. Smiling Uni students in big collar open shirts and women in mini-skits with beehives.

Tragic. There's a special place in Hell for the religious nutters.

This. I've known a fair few Iranians, and they have ALL been sound - loveliest people I've ever known. Cliche'd, but "give you the shirt off their back and the last of their food" types. Such a shame the government is seemingly the complete opposite.

Not a nice way for this chap (and the others) to meet his end, and so for that, RIP.

Hopefully they can return to normality.

I'm glad he has been killed. Best news I've read in years.

They will just plug the next idiot into the job and the oppression continues.

I know you mean well...but Rest In Peace for a horrid regime that took the country back to the middle ages?
Nope.
Hopefully the people will stand up for change?

This. The guy was a mass murderer. He has oppressed, tortured and killed his own people, then there’s what he’s done to women. He has supplied weapons, munitions, training etc for terrorists around the world.

Unfortunately, like shark teeth another one will just fill the gap.

If you re mocking the religious but talking about a place in hell for them, that doesn’t really work as you have to be religious to believe in hell.

Russia has a prime minister. It also has Putin running things. Irans leader runs Iran. The president probably had a bit of involvement but wasn’t running things. So nothing will change.

Iran's leader is very old, and this person was probably being lined up for the successor. Now they need to find someone else.

After a few seconds of mourning, maybe they could hold an election?

if the leader installed after the US and UK led a coup that overthrew the elected government at the time wasn't quite so corrupt and decadent, perhaps things wouldn't have ended up such that the iranian population was clamouring for Khomeini's return despite all that progressive freedoms (as long as one didn't catch the attention of the shah's secret police of course) either later.

They have been standing up, and have been killed in their hundreds for it.

Back in the 80's, Raisi himself was involved in death committees that executed thousands of political prisoners.

Raisi deserved to die, frankly. It's a pity it didn't happen sooner, and I hope he rots in hell.

How often does Khomeini travel in helicopters?

He's been dead for decades already.....no need to jump on a helicopter to risk it!

The US and UK are absolutely fine with regimes that slaughter their own people (and others) as long as they're our "allies" and/or are willing to buy millions of pounds of weapons from us. They're only evil/corrupt/decadent regimes if they don't.

As others say, Iran was a very different place not such a long time back. I have also spoken at length to Iranians who fled the country and understood the profound changes, as they saw it.

The current regime is a scam and a disgrace. The voting for the 'elections' is barely supported, because the people know it is a fix. The Irania public's reactions to the demise of the leaders in the helicoprter tells more of the story too.

Nobody deserves to die before their time. If they have done wrong then they should atone and suffer every minute of punishment, but life is sacred IMO. I'm not expressing any sympathy for the Iranian government.

The comments on some news sites are hilarous, the Russian state news has comments blaming Jews, Israel, USA etc...

They were completely taken in by another user who stated that the chopper was flown by a Mossad agent Eli Copter rofl idiots.

Iran's ruling clan won't give a crap. They'll have some fake mourning, roll in a new dictator and carry on much as before.

There is zero chance of a democratic election for a new President taking place.

It was obviously his time. Chopper flying in fog in mountainous regions is incredibly stupid.

Here is a picture of me and my brother in downtown Tehran with a Catholic priest, circa 1977. Not something you would see now…!
