as I said:
I said, I'll be happy to expand on the reasons you might specify alternatives, once we understand your position.
You are asking me for a detailed explanation.

All I'm asking from you is one little word:

You asked: " can you give an example in a historic, solid wall house where it'd be better?"

That suggests that you believe that there are no such circumstances. Is that correct? Yes or no.

Oh dear. maybe it just suggests that i'd like you to give an example as you've quoted.

It’s going to be fun seeing who has the last word/post here.

A proper little internet off bow
The more italics that Equus feels necessary to use, the longer it's going to go on.
I think we need to let him have the last word, unless we get a professional with experience on the forum to assist.

How many times do I need to repeat: I am happy to do so once you have clarified your position.

All you need to do is answer a simple question, yes or no.

You don't need to feel so angry.

Its not a Yes or No answer for me. Sorry if that doesn't work for you. I dont live in a binary world, I tend to consider that my mind is open, hence why I asked you a very simple question, which you try to answer/delay/stall.

Hope thats OK with you? yes or no

Yes, you're right - I try to answer.

I merely need confirmation of your position before I do so: I need to know whether I'm framing that answer for someone who simply doesn't know what he's talking about, or a full-blow swivel-eyed loon.

Your recent behaviour suggests the latter, I'm afraid.

I've given you my position, i'm smart enough to know that i don't know everything, also that if something seems right, its right.

Sorry you think i'm a loon, that says more about yourself, your position and your fixed mindset. Looking at your posts, are you a council planner?

There, I suspect, is where you're going wrong.

Solid wall construction was never a particularly effective technology, which is why it's been completely abandoned, these days: it wouldn't even meet current Building Regulations.

No, I'm director of an architectural practice (and Planning consultancy, yes, but the latter is just a hobby as far as I am concerned - I keep a tame Chartered Planner to deal with the professional side of it)... and about, ooh, 35% of our work is on historic buildings, I'd say.

So when you say 'we're both just enthusiastic amateurs' and 'we both seek professional advice from knowledgeable people', you're speaking for yourself and QuickQuack, I assume. I have four decades of experience, professional qualifications and CDP behind me, and I make my living at this. smile

But if you've checked my posting history, you know all that, already, so we're back to just trolling really, aren't we?

I've only looked in the past few pages.

When I said if it looks right, its right, that would be in relation to an explanation(yours) how why you would spec plasterboard and gypsum in an old house.

your post does go a long way to explain how and why you reply in the way you do. I'm pleased your a director, thats got nothing to do with this discussion, it adds no weight in your favour. you might be slightly blinkered by your job title.

It is amusing that you come across as a fellow enthusiastic amateur. just one without any practical experience. This is where I suspect you're going wrong.

Have a fantastic long weekend.

It’s going to be a long time before anyone else starts a lime threadlaugh I thought the experiment was interesting though, if anyone can remember it.

Before someone pulls up the drawbridge I have a question regarding Lime

'Is it OK to put in my Mojito'?

You got the thread title right, mind?

Depends whether it's been slaked or not.

But just try it: if it tastes right, it is right. wink

I have plasterboard over lime plaster in parts of the house.

To quote Keith Mandement:

'Well, I would say this - I've been working here for 18 years, and in 1975 no one died. In 1976, no one died. In 1977, no one died. In 1978, no one died. In 1979, no-one died. In 1980... someone died. In 1981, no one died. In 1982 there was the incident with the pigeon. In 1983, no one died. In 1984, no one died. In 1985, no one died. In 1986... I mean, I could go on.'

So the lesson with solid walls is clearly to cover all bases and add both. Lime first, obviously, I'm not some kind of .

I guess that’s like asking a Barman who’s made cocktails or one who’s only read how to make them 😂

At least it won’t dry out in there!

I could be wrong.....but I vaguely recall Equus mentioning at some point that he/his practice were working with 'somebody' doing WUFI type calcs on various wall types/build ups.

If so (and I'm certainly not sure about my facts here/cba to search) I wouldn't be venturing too much info either.

That said - I'd have just said so if it were me smile
