Sitting in hospital literally 10 mins away from my 1st dose chemo for throat cancer. Now it could have been caused by anything but 30 plus years of 30 a day won't have helped much. Now though after 3 months of not smoking I love the smell of smoking but hate the smell of the old smoke on people's clothing. Strangely until I stopped I couldn't smell the aftersmoke

Smoking is bad enough, but vaping is equally nasty. You notice a car in front of you at traffic lights sometimes erupt with a cloud of smoke out of the window, god knows what it's like in the car.

It's even worse when you realise a large proportion of that atrocious smole has been inside that weirdo's lungs and if you can smell it, it's now in yours! Yuck.
Sometimes I'll give smokers and vapist a lift.

The smokers know not to even ask to smoke in the car or with a cracked window and that their next smoke will be at the next services..

Some vapists think it's fine to puff, until the emergency stop and they are told to get the f*ck out. Then they try Plan B which is to ask if they can vape with the window open. The answer is always yes, but you'll be waiting for a taxi.

That's the difference between smokers and vapists.

Not a fan when I am eating, and it does feel obnoxious when someone lights up while others have food at their table, say at a pub garden. But actually quite like the smell after a meal or at an outside bar/terrace, especially if its proper tobacco from a cigar/pipe. I do occasionally smoke a pipe on holiday/at an event so I am biased on this.

I was at Taunton A&E recently in the middle of the night when someone started vaping. The sign just said "No Smoking", so they thought it was ok. Luckily the receptionist soon put him in his place.

I would have said it doesnt bother me but after a week in Tenerife it gets to you after a while, especially since Covid as when my sense of smell was coming back it triggered a similar smell to fag smoke in my nostrils. It gets oppressive if you are sat somewhere with lots smoking.

When I walk the dog at night, I usually relish the clean air at about ten PM but there is this bloke who obviously isnt allowed to smoke at home who lurks about chain smoking, it annoys the st out of me as he leaves his dimps all over, occasionally the packet and the smell is revolting.

Glad it got stopped in pubs and stuff, think we were so used to it didnt really notice.

And now we have vapes, had someone blow a big cloud out as I was walking past on holiday so I made a point of wafting it away, thats almost worse than fags, dont want to sell your Berries and Cherries vape smoke you pleb, over there you see fatties on mobility Scooters going past sucking on one and billowing smoke, looks for all the world like one of those Wild West Locomotives with the big smoke stack ascending a steep grade and really chuffing out a big plume.

Is it still seen as cool amongst the youngsters? When I was doing my A levels the cool group were all very cliquey and virtually all of them smoked. After we had finished our A levels a large percentage of the year went on holiday together and they had smoking seating on the plane back then. I ended up having to sit with them as my best friend at the time was a wannabe part of the cool group and he wanted to sit in the same section as them.

I just wonder how many people take up smoking because it gives them a reason to hang around with the perceived cool group?

Fresh tobacco if any variety is fine, stale smoke is pretty rough though.

Can't stand weed and the cloud chucking vapes leave a lot to be desired.

I'm more surprised at the amount of members who get their knickers in a twist about it outside.

Remember when people crossed the street if someone didn’t have a mask on…nothing surprises me anymore…

Never been a smoker but the smell does not bother me. My only rule is no smoking in my car. There is a lot af marijuana smoking here in Canada where
it is perfectly legal: however the smell is very intense and I tend to avoid contact with weed smokers.

I’ve never smoked, and while I don’t like the smell of smoke it doesn’t bother me for the most part.

Vapists though? Every single one of them can get in the bin along with their stupid Kiwi and rainbow unicorn farts.
I actually left Knockhill BSB early last year as it was impossible to sit anywhere without some pasty motherf*cker sucking on their stupid vape like an out of control Henry Hoover.

I used to smoke 30-40 / day until 1999.
I was 29 when I stopped smoking then and I've not smoked since.

Whilst smoke outdoors can be annoying, you're outside, and in the OP's case - a pub garden.
It's the only place smokers can smoke at the pub.

If it's that annoying, move or go inside, where there's no cigarette smoke.
It's what I do.

And that has unfortunately ruined beer gardens for many now. As you say where else are they meant to smoke.

It's absolutely disgusting. The last thing I want to experience is a bunch of guys fagging off in a doorway, side street, or at the table in a beer garden.
but what do you think about smoking?

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, but then I'm a smoker you'd expect that.

I'm usually fairly considerate with not smoking around people eating outside, and also have a heated tobacco device which is far less antisocial so will use that where possible in a crowded area.

However at the end of the day the beer garden is the only place I can enjoy a beer and a cig, which I find one of life's pleasures. If I hear someone such as the OP's parents trying to loudly cast judgement, I'll loudly cast judgement back suggesting that if it bothers them that much there's usually a smoke free area inside they can use instead.

Don’t come across people smoking much in at all, when I’m in the UK anyway. That said, it’s still a grim little addiction.

Vaping is just council.

im a smoker, have been for a long time, however i never smoke around others, and never inside.
I do find vapers annoying tho, puffing out huge clouds of sweet smelling smoke everywhere.
And im not sure they are much better for you than smoking.
and yes im trying to give up, but it isnt easy.
