I am going to go with the first 18 of the squad will be:

Pickford
Shaw
Maguire
Chilwell
Philips
Tripper
Walker
Foden
Saka
Grealish
Bellingham
Henderson
Rice
Kane
Wilson
Rashford
Stirling

Not all of these will go but he’s going to get all his mates in for his last camp

Rashford and Sterling not in the provisional squad apparently. Neither is Henderson. (All media speculation).

Southgate finally taking his tablets.

I can't see Philips getting in either (if Southgate has been taking his meds)

Goalkeepers will be interesting selections, as the two normal backups to Pickford both have question marks over, Pope has only just played the one game last week since being out injured for half of the season, and Ramsdale has pretty only played a few cups games all season....!!

I hope so. He's been even more awful at West Ham than at City. And he never played for City.

However I suspect he will be. With no Henderson (apparently) will need some experienced DM cover for Rice and Bellingham. So even though Phillips hasn't played much football, he'll probably still be selected.

There was some talk about the Swansea City goalkeeper being a surprise selection. Will find out in a few minutes.

His contribution at WH was sabotage, not football. Dreadful signing.

Rushworth was by a million miles our player of the season - whether he is quite international quality yet...as you say, will find out soon.

The Henderson story is very funny. Leaves Liverpool, follows the money to Saudi and alienates a community he supported, hates it after 5 mins, moves back to Europe on the back of a call with Southgate to understand what level he needs to be playing at, has a bad time at Ajax and is now dropped by Southgate, his number #1 fan. What a year! laugh

He's not the brightest light bulb in Blackpool illuminations though is he.

Walker I agree with you but Trippier world class? Not a hope in Hell. People forget he was rotting on the Spurs bench a scant few years ago when we were in desperate need of a LB, that's how crap he was.
He was a lot better after leaving you and joining Atletico and initially Newcastle though? Those days are well behind him now I agree.

We really miss Shaw when he's not there.

I know Maguire gets a lot of flack but Walker, Stones, Maguire and Shaw isn't an awful international defence. But the back-up options aren't great.
Bang average. Stone's best form this season has been at DM, Walker past his best at 33, Shaw has been injured since February and Maguire is Maguire.

Quarter Finals will be as far as we go IMHO, but will of course hope for more as always.
Walker's age is a red herring. He's in his prime in terms of experience and still has pace. If Maguire plays as he often has in international tournaments average is good enough - or as good as we're going to get. Having defenders who play together at club level counts for a lot.

The omission of a few comfort blankets and inclusion of a fair bit of inexperienced talent makes me wonder if Southgate regards this as his last hurrah and is prepared to take some chances.

I'd like to see a team comprising

Pickford
Walker Stones Maguire Shaw
Mainoo Rice
Bellingham Foden
Saka Kane

There's talk of him coming back to Leeds if we get promoted. Personally, despite how good he was during our promotion season and first year back in the Premiership, he's now reverted to the pre-Bielsa Philips that most wouldn't cared about if we sold and just wouldn't fit anymore.

On the lack of depth in defence, it's still a real shame Ben White won't play for England.

So 7 to be omitted from that list, suggest these will be unlucky:

Trafford, Bowen, Toney, Jones, Wharton, Dunk, plus one whoever gets injured between now & then. Grealish if not.
