I bought a copy based on this thread, but wouldn't recommend it.
Changing down to 2nd in a 4 pot Nissan at 90? WTF!
If you want a 4 cylinder turbo in a Capri a Cossie might be a better idea.
Maybe but the Nissan 200SX has shown itself in the right hands, to be capable of extreme levels of horsepower. One Japanese tuning house got circa 800bhp from one and even with the best will in the world, a Cosworth won't make that.Changing down to 2nd in a 4 pot Nissan at 90? WTF!

IIRC Dick Johnson had the best output on his Cosworths and that was circa 620bhp.
And it isn't as if people have never transplanted engine before and the author is just exercising his creative process
Cheers man, yeah it’s just a bit different isn’t it? As much as they’re fantastic, Cosworth is the obvious route (and I drive a Capri with a 24v Cosworth so I know all about obvious conversions!) nothing wrong with being different?
As a rule I don’t reply to reviews, but since is was posted on a forum that I’m commenting on I figure I’m not breaking the rule
I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the book, it sucks reading something you don’t enjoy. But thank you for taking the time to read it, it’s still very much appreciated. Hope you enjoy whatever you read next!
I have a lot of merch from the launch of the two books, if anyone fancies anything drop me a message with an address! Cheers

To be fair he doesn’t just change from 5th to 2nd at 90, it does also say he brakes heavily for the corner Changing down to 2nd in a 4 pot Nissan at 90? WTF!

I’m sure I worked with the bloke in the picture when I worked at Porton. If it is who I think it is, he was a bio safety adviser and had been involved in the cleanup

any news of third book yet as needing my petrolhead/spy fix soon
The third and final book in the trilogy, 77 North, is out in three weeks! 07/09 in all good bookshops, as they say. And to celebrate, the publisher is re-publishing the first two books on the same date with new covers to match, complete with related car content!

Thanks guys, that’s really kind!
I don’t want to post links because I might get I trouble for advertising?
Money for me is pretty much the same regardless, especially around launch. The big A is good for algorithms which always helps, but I always say it’s better to support indies.
I know you can order specifically the new covers on the first two books from Waterstones but not sure on others - it may be hit or miss whether you get new or old covers depending on stock, sorry! I’m not sure how it works!
But as for the third book - you can preorder signed copies from the fantastic Forum bookshop in Corbridge or The Bound in Whitley Bay (they do mail order) and, while I don’t think my sig is anything special, these ones do come with merch and stickers!

I’ve got several scripts to get out of the way and some other bits but then I’ll be back on a new book, something very different with less car content unfortunately!

Hi OP I’m just listening to the sample on audible, I’m curious how do you get the narrator ?
Do you choose or Amazon?
He sounds like Sean Bean somewhat (bd), to me anyway !
I’ll give it a listen.
Hiya! I’m not the op but I’m assuming one for me Do you choose or Amazon?

Haha he does say that like Sean Bean. He was asked to Yorkshire it up a bit, I believe he’s from Lancashire.
I don’t have much say, I was lucky I was even asked for input. My publisher sent me 3 or so samples of voice actors and said they had a favourite, choose. I chose the same as them.
He does an amazing array of accents.
In general authors don’t get much choice in anything - covers, voice artists, or anything else. Sometimes you’re asked as a courtesy, but sometimes you’re lucky and they genuinely want your opinion. Often though, it’s just ‘what do you think about this?’ and choosing between their options for things.
With these new covers I was really lucky. My first two books came out with covers the publisher commissioned, which I liked. But I sent a photoshopped cover of my third book to the publisher as a joke, and they went with that idea, finding an artist and briefing them to produce the new covers here. I got lots of input and consultation on those!
I actually specified actors pictures for the figures, and on the middle book (Black Run) he’s actually wearing my hoody, Barbour, and Adidas Shelltops!
The Capri on Anthrax Island is based on a pic I specified (it’s in the book) as I have a Capri, and the B7 RS4 Avant on the cover of Black Run is a pic of my car!
Obviously that level of input is very rare!
