Me too. Great track, great people, and a pretty good destination that also needs tourist $$$

sadly, not tht it'd ever happen given the relevant circuits aren't going to be able to pay Liberty enough but if covid time races were going to return, I'd really want Portimao to be there before Nurburgring GP tbh.....
Mugello too, without Massi to cock it up this time.
Mugello was great!! Apart from Masi.

What did Masi do at Mugello?

Just being a bit of a nob. Ironic that he stated nothing needed to be changed with the restart procedure, a shame he didn't stick to that when he re-wrote the restart rules on the fly for AD21 biggrin

But anyway, gripes aside Mugello is probably not entirely suitable for F1, but it was also a fun circuit, and beautiful too.

The drivers all got rather upset that they managed to screw up a restart, and if they’d have been watching the F2 race they’d have seen exactly the same scenario play out, just without the massive crash in the middle of the field.

Remember the covid year when the Nurburgring got a race. Old school circuit quite tight and it was a cracking race with overtaking in loads of places. We need to go back there.
Dump Imola and make it the German GP again or even alternating.

... wink
Nurburgring F1 is a great circuit to watch at, lots of overtaking opportunities.

Same as Sepang International Circuit, that always was a good race

2021 was a total mess of governance, especially when you add Spa into the mix, where Masi forced them not to race and still dished out the points. Once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, thrice...?

Back to this race, a great finale after a bit of dullness, great to see a genuine non-orchestrated battle for the lead. smile

Indeed… I want to see the winner earning the top step. Soaking up pressure. Obviously that’s not going to happen every race not already knowing who the winner will be raises the anticipation for the race. I’m know fan of Max but if he (or whoever wins), soaking up pressure, actually racing is better than we’ve for the last few years.

Total mess or highly targeted manipulation of the sport in order to deliver a close season and down to the line finale? scratchchin

I guess we'll never know either way, as they've booted the guy that was either highly manipulative or simply totally incompetent. Whichever it is, it's a very poor reflection of the years he spent under Whiting's wing learning the job.

Give it another 20 years; it would certainly make for some excellent reading, very likely to include stuff that we didn't know we didn't know.

He didn't spend very long with Charlie (just 2018 iirc) and had to fill very large shoes very quickly, perhaps if he'd had another copy of seasons he would have coped better. We were at a dinner with him at spa in 2019, he was generous with his time, and seemed a pretty genuine and sound bloke. I think ultimately the pressure got to him.

There wasn't much race chat or gossip (there never is) and no teams were there. I think the FIA paid, I was quite relived I swerved that one.

All in jest - I bet it was an interesting night.

And perhaps you're right, perhaps it was just pressure that got to Masi. I just can't shake the concern that so much that happened that season very conveniently had the effect of keeping the championship battle alive and super close. It really could just be the wrong person for the job syndrome too, I might be reading too much into it..

It was, popped up to the hotel to pick up pick up our passes and have a quick beer and ended up having dinner with half of F1 race control.

To a certain extent, the teams exploited his relative inexperience in F1, and his tendency to come up with a negotiated resolution. It was a feature of the Aussie Supercar series (where a lot of his previous experience lay) that penalties and resolutions could be somewhat flexible.

fwiw, I think he made monumental judgement errors in "that race", largely through not sticking to the rules at probably the most stressful moment of his career, but my word was he unfairly pressured into making them.
