I’m not saying he didn’t say it, I’m saying I’m fairly certain there is another side to that story
There’s a suggestion in the comments that he had a brain fart and was thinking about the breakaway negotiations that Ferrari undermined. Odd that the video hasn’t been taken down though if that was the case. I suppose the more views the better regardless.

Tony Southgate has an excellent book called "From Drawing Board to Chequered Flag"

I have so many racing related books it's ridiculous, some worth quite a lot these days.

My favourite engineering/management based racing book is probably the book by John Wyer, "The Certain Sound: Thirty Years of Motor Racing" with a close second the book by John Horsman "Racing in the Rain: Engineering Victories with Aston Martin, GT40 and Porsche 917"

Hearing today that sources are saying his move to Ferrari is entirely possible. He seems to like Hamilton and Hamilton has been quoted as saying he likes him too.
Interesting point the source made was that he didn’t think we would see Newey doing it full time, as he seemingly has other interests that he has mentioned in the past.

  • the source close to Newey and his family, also has considerable ties with Ferrari asked not to be identified.

That's hardly new news.

I think it was Brundle who said that his current contract with Red Bull was for 150 days a year.

That's less than 3 days a week. If we assume that number includes turning up at most GP weekends, then he's already not exactly a regular fixture in the office.

In an exclusive interview hosted by Oyster Yachts during the Historic Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Adrian Newey revealed his future plans to his good friend and manager, F1 supremo Eddie Jordan.

Will take a look at this soon . I suspect a lot will ignore it as there is more mileage in speculating on everything.

BBC Sport website has the important bits pulled out in an article if you want to read it. Again, not really anything new except it's the first time he's said he'll "probably" end up at another team but he's still being coy about timeframes. Important to remember this is an advert not just for the brand but for him as it's his manager "interviewing" him so it's all for show, they're not revealing anything.

Good interview, with the obvious caveat that the two of them aren’t going to give anything away. The first half is about car racing, and the second half about boats.

He admitted that he’s one of those people who’ll never really retire, one gets the impression that he would quite like another challenge.

Oh, and that’s quite a lovely boat.

After watching the interview I went to the oyster site and took a tour of one of the same spec yachts - really beautiful!

I think the interview itself is literally just a promo for Oyster tbh, "Look how one of the worlds most celebrated engineers loves an Oyster...", I think that's the angle far more than a promo for Newey himself, as I remain 90% sure he's already found his new employment for the next several years smile

I agree with him and several others I have met re retirement. Nice idea but when you stop, you start to die. That's why it's incredibly important to find work in life that you're genuinely passionate about.

There was a brief moment in there when Eddie was talking about cycling. He said Adrian's bike was crap and he should make sure Zak includes a new one in his contract.

I'm fairly sure that was just Eddie being mischievous because Zak was in the room.

Although TBH, if Newey goes to McLaren or Ferrari, I'm happy either way.

A bit off topic - but can anyone identify this car?

I'm going to say 250 Tour de France.
Seems to be:
Thanks guys.

You know you've made it when you take your 250 out to finish spec'ing your new 90ft sailing yacht.

You definitely know you've made it when you also take said 250 out to spice up a commute to MK on a rainy Thursday!

Never seen it before so quite the coincidence it's turned up today, he must read the thread! hehe

I get the impression they have become close friends as EJ has shown him how to enjoy his success.
Also EJ having being a F1 team owner meant he knew the in and out of employment contracts.
Newey being an engineer probably didn't have much skill in that area and also had a lot of inertia from not wanting to disappoint people.
EJ must have pointed out the ideal time to give your employer bad news is when they are doing so well. Plus some clause in your contract you can exploit.

Whole thing seems like a ferrari outcome one day as you can moor up in a nice isolated grotto in the med.
Alternatively work for mclaren and sail round and round the isle of white.
Me speculating now lol.

That's great, but isn't it considered really bad to take such a valuable classic out on a wet day, drive it through puddles etc?

Although he's probably got a temperature and humidity controlled garage to dry it off in at home..

That’s rather lovely, but couldn’t they have let him park it in the lobby out of the rain?

It's only considered bad by owners who like to polish their cars and worry about putting miles on them for fear of harming their value. Porsche fans, basically whistle

Some people do like to enjoy their classics. They're not water soluble and, with a 250 being worth as much as it is, anything that breaks/rots is worth fixing.

It's a GT car being used as intended. So much better than being hidden away in a collection until it's ready to be sold at auction.

I couldn't agree more - just surprised to see it being taken out on a wet day as I know mostly that's avoided.

I'd be more worried about parking it outside in Milton Keynes. If he works late it's likely some scrotes will use it for dounghts in the local Caccies car park

Don't. You're bringing back memories of my younger years when we used to put McDonalds trays under the rear wheels of his Nova, pull the handbrake on and do 'sort of' donuts in the car park getmecoat
