Quite surprised how many of these there are. Plenty on the various selling platforms with relatively low miles for £1500-ish.

High end option: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364898684486

Yeah still loads about, very cheap cars for no obvious reason than just being a Vectra it seems.

Would happily have another if this one throws a wobbly - it despatches motorway miles very well indeed.
They're interesting insofar as the cruising MPG looks very good and they're the load capacity of a van, especially if you opt for the cavernous estate. I don't need anything that big but as an overall cost of ownership view they look a decent option.

Then there's the uber-shed! V6 Elite

This looks a more pragmatic choice

The Uber-shed may be £995 for a nicely appointed car, but £735 a year road tax would cause me to struggle to justify buying it.
Such a shame.

It's a Honda Stepwagon, RG model.

How that's shed money I will.never know
To be fair it isn't and probably never will be.

JDM cars are worth there weight in spares even if it's a basket case they still do strong money.

I'm thinking more from a how I use and think of the car rather than an arbitory value figure.
I was thinking they hold there money well, even for rusty examples. Been looking at these myself, but would want an RF version.

Agreed. And there's the rub with the tax system. The flawed logic that old cars like this are poison whilst completely overlooking the environmental impact of producing new ones.

Rf is getting on a bit now the good examples are strong money.

Makes a better day van than any of the other stepwagons due to the completely flat fold of the rear seats.

I wouldn't discount the RG take a look you might be pleasantly surprised...mines given only one issue in 3 years which was a weeping power steering hose.

I checked the VED and stopped there.....it's the first thing I do when looking at a nice but older car.

I think that I might be back in Shed club?

1st wash of the year not looking to shabby for a 16 year old bus.

I'm not overly precious about cosmetics and it has the odd scratch and ding here and there.

Happy doing tip runs with it and mostly doing all my own spanner work.

A big bill on it would see me weighing up its value in parts as opposed to fixing it, which I suppose is a marker of a Sheddist.

Not a patch on the old Grotrod, though :-)
Fancy doing a thread on this? I’ve been thinking of getting one for a couple of months.

Old bus now on just over 184K so 12K miles since July. Had an oil filter and fluid change at 175K, going in for another one next week. Needed two rear tyres as the other ones were getting a mite thin.. £150 for the pair. Beyond the initial £900 and the calipers that were needed in the first week only costs have been the oil change and the tyres, plus a refitting of the front bumper after hitting a deer at nigh on 60mph broke the clips that hold it on smile

Yep, my <£700 family VAG hand me down will be £415 next time. I may only do 1,000 miles but it's saving the planet and I am not killing kids with asthma in London as it's Euro4 and I live nowhere near London.

Hang on, surely that's up to me to decide. laugh

Although I agree - it would be a great way to get home from the pub with someone else driving!

Pinging on my radar these Mondy's of this era, many though I have seen with similar mileage and age have subframe rust/corrosion advisories on the MOT history, which seems to be quite common and is a little off putting for me...

biggrin

It's funny - there's a 599 for sale in a local Ferrari dealer to me and that's ULEZ-friendly. It has a 6 litre engine. Instead of whinging about ULEZ, the Blade Runners should just treat themselves to a Ferrari. biggrin

The Jazz is currently in the garage. On the way home from dropping my mum off, the car started making some clunking noises while driving. It wasn't happening over bumps, so not thinking its drop links or control arms.

Have a feeling it might be front axle or similar. Luckily enough the mechanic i used to use has changed locations and now only down the road.

Shame though that his garage is on a farm, and said farm looks like st hole. biggrin Top lad though, and is able to turn his hand to most stuff. Perfect for keeping sheds on the road.

My son has a Jazz Sport, knackered drop links make a shocking noise that makes you think the car is falling apart. The cheap Chinese ones last about 13 months, but take 10 minutes a side to replace..

Yup, subframes are an issue , but they are cheap to buy and not expensive to fit at an indy.( though this one is amazingly totally rust free) According to the service book this one was a fleet car and well looked after. These were good fleet cars roomy and mileage munchers on the motorway. You can still find good ones. My neighbour has a hatchback 2007 in good nick, same motor, brand new MOT, for £750....https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/764178002479550/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A96cd2d42-f138-4eeb-bc48-af5993929f4f

I've been offered a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDi DSG 2012 on 120k for £2,500 from my elderly neighbour.

What's everyone's thoughts on the engine/gearbox from that era? Surely it can't be worse than my Renault. Which, by the way needs a new exhaust sensor for £85.
