Seriously Overpriced Cars
Discussion
Herd mentality puts pressure on parts as much as purchase price. Find something you like driving and the look of that no-one else talks about in the pub....
I can think of at least 5 marques that are fun, good looking cars, can keep up with modern traffic, are under 10K and well supported by clubs.
Of course with the means you can be a sheep and ship a boot load on a 70's 911.

Have to agree about R34 GTRs and S15 Silvias. I own the latter but there's no way it's worth 6k more than a S14a! Brilliant car but yes, overpriced.
R34 GTRs are just stupid, 3 times more expensive than a R33 GTR? Assuming it's due to it being the last Skyline GTR as the R35 isn't technically a Skyline.
The R34 GTR also got a lot of glamour points from starring in 2 Fast 2 Furious.R34 GTRs are just stupid, 3 times more expensive than a R33 GTR? Assuming it's due to it being the last Skyline GTR as the R35 isn't technically a Skyline.
1967/68 shape Fastback Mustangs are hugely sought after for the same reason of having starred in Bullitt and Gone in 60 Seconds.
Any particular model which starred in a popular film will be more sought after that objectively similar cars which didn't star in popular films.
Although no idea wtf this guy is smoking.

There are some seriously silly cheap Chimeras about that would be an utter hoot. Parts not that hard to get hold of if you have an internet connection and a good specialist in your phone book. Even tinkered with the idea of buying one for tracking and possibly the odd pot hunting clubbie but have run out of parking space Rude-boy said:

Certainly in my top 5. Also offerings from Lotus, Austin, Saab, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Jag, BMW....Mr. Magoo said:

Now I am a car man, and I hear what you are saying but...There are three makes up there that have some lovely old metal out there but which even mechanics I know wouldn't touch with yours, let alone theirs
Now an old V12 XJS would be a most beautiful way to go bankrupt whilst driving to and from the motor factors with parts for the Esprit.
I'm loving the leftfield thoughts of SAABs though. (off to the classifieds to see what a Carlson or Aero fetches these days)
let me put it this way....you could have one mint 993 turbo or:
1 x 92 Lotus Elan SE
1 x Saab 900 Turbo cabriolet
1 x Jag XJ6
1 x DS
1 x Peugeot 504 Cabriolet
1 x Renault Alpine
.........all well spannered and running nicely. Because I always had a he'll of a problem in front of the pic n mix as a kid I would chose the latter option for my (rather large) garage.

And I'd still prefer the 993.1 x 92 Lotus Elan SE

AE86 Corollas. I'm sure they're great to drive, but at the end of the day it's still just a mildly quick Corolla
I've got one, think they can justify the money they go for. They aren't that expensive really, usually about 6-8k. When you consider they are early to mid 80's, they are the same sort of money as their contemporaries and a lot better to drive than most. A Series 1 Escort RS Turbo is about the same money, MK1 Golf GTI's aren't far behind, a nice E30 325i sport is the same sort money. The AE86 flew up in price quickly around 2007 but the market has been stagnant since, maybe even dipping slightly while similar cars have now appreciated to the same sort of levels. Back then they were expensive, now they are about right.

That's insane! He states £110,000 spent on it!!? If that's the case and it was all spent by the same person (presumably the seller), he needs medication or something. I don't know enough about these cars to comment any further really, but how much do people reckon it's really worth?Although no idea wtf this guy is smoking.

Everything at 4 star in Hampshire?
yep, seems a good betI think this is where you see 4Star is a rip-off:
Renault 5 GTT Raider for £13,995 - http://www.4starclassics.com/renault-5-gt-turbo-ra...
Renault 5 GTT Raider for £3995 on C & C -
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C571896
There's not 10ks worth of difference.

If they weren't shifting stuff, they'd (or at least you'd think) be reviewing their business model and taking a different tack.
Still pathetcally overpriced, mind.
Its priced as high as they think they can get away with. Fair enough they may be selling - but not as fast as they would like I imagine. They're market only opens up when there are no private examples for sale.If they weren't shifting stuff, they'd (or at least you'd think) be reviewing their business model and taking a different tack.

Whats off putting is that they are known to present the cars on linglongs and other cheap tyres, unsuitable for the vehicle.
