997.1 turbo or 991 carrera
Discussion
It does have the Mezger engine, but in the turbo you won’t get the same sound as when the engine is used in the GT3. It would be very tuneable and durable with after market exhausts etc.
The 991 spans 2 generations and had multiple iterations, all with slightly different characters.
Go to some car meets and check out the options.

Is this a daily driver (991), or a weekend toy (997)?
It would pretty much be a daily, I'd use it 3 days a week for getting to work (10 mile commute) and weekends for a bit of fun. Have a family car as a workhorse so want to have a bit of fun and fulfil a lifelong goal!Grantstown said:

Thanks for the advice! I'll have a look through the forums for meet information etc.The 991 spans 2 generations and had multiple iterations, all with slightly different characters.

I was in this budget range recently and went 991.1 Carrera S. I've previously owned a 996 turbo, 996C4S, 997 GT3 and a Cayman R and the 991 with PDK hasn't disappointed at all. It is a great all round package and it sounds simply magnificent to boot. Here's a gratuitous photo of mine

I'd go for the 991 as a daily (and I did, for a year). I ended up with a 991 Carrera S. If you plan on keeping it for a while, I would consider updating the nav to car play, or if you are likely only going to keep it a year of two get this:

Really? My 997 Turbo gen 1.5 is kept on the street and a daily driver. I'm not a high mileage driver but even if I were, it would be depreciating slower than a 991.
Was my preference based on better interior tech, bigger interior volume, and I preferred the look. Horses for courses.
No one will struggle to enjoy either of them!
As a daily driver and weekend (non track ) tie, I'd argue for a 997 C2S. If has all the power you would want on the road, you can get a manual at a reasonable price and of course that sublime hydraulic steering, the last model that had it. The sound of the flat 6 (especially the .1 IMO) is fantastic.
I was considering 991's as my introduction to Porsche but opted for a 997 as what I though was a better balance of traits. It hasn't disappointed.

Can't go wrong with either although I'd say the 991 Carrera S will cost far less to run and be more reliable. PDK a bonus too in traffic etc. I'd say the 991 Carrera S is more exciting to drive too. A turbo is quite aloof. You're cossetted from all the drama. Its Dad's 911.
A 991 is more engaging than a 997? I know you are speaking from experience but it's not what I expected you to write!Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
