We were camping, luckily not in a tent, most of those pitches were under water this morning. We made the decision at lunchtime to miss the races and come home, the camp site is a mess. It wasn’t worth the risk of knowing if the racing was going to happen and then being stuck trying to get out.

I know someone else who did exactly the same thing today. The campsite sounds like an absolute st show this weekend.Smollet said:

That was an awful crash. Hope he doesn’t have anything serious or long lasting from that. Will have an almighty headache tomorrow at the very least.
Pretty spectacular. Says a lot for the structural integrity of what's basically a 30 yo design. This one today was horrible such a hard front end impact did you see his head ricocheting when it hit the ground thank god for hans devices.
last year there was an almighty legends crash down the back straight at Cadwell for Jon Mickell looked horrific lucky he was ok.

Great last race - Moffat did an amazing defensive first lap and then went on to take a great win.
This years extra boost from hybrid looks like a huge improvement in racing after a very dull year last year as it didn’t work well compared to the weight penalties from previous seasons .
If Huff and Moffett had not battled so hard maybe Toyota could have had 3 on the podium but not sure if Huff had the right set up compared to Moffat and Cook.
Watching the start the grid looks so small now with reduced entries from previous years.

Im about an hour away from Thruxton and fancy taking my son (3 years).
How does the Saturday usually go as its half the price, do they not have touring cars on?
Also, what's viewing area like at Thruxton? Do you have to pay for seating?

On Saturday the touring cars will be on track for practice and qualifying.
Last time I was at a BTCC event there was no charge for sitting in the grandstand. I’m sure someone else will confirm one way or another.

We went last year & if i remember correctly one of the grandstands was free but the other you had to have tickets for, we go on a Friday night and camp for the weekend, there is plenty of support races on the Saturday, but just practice & qualifying for the Touring carshttps://btcc.net/circuit/thruxton/

Sadly will not be able to make Thruxton this year as it clashes with a holiday so looking at doing Brands Hatch for the end of season, anyone know what the camping is like there?

JP bought me a pint of beer. Beat that
We used to go to the BTCC a few times a year with TOCA hospitality, eventually realised we usually ended up on the table used by drivers friends and family and at one of the earlier events we went to I asked a couple sat with us which driver they were with. Looking back I don't know how I didn't realise it, but we were sat with JP's parents - his dad is the spitting image of JP. His mum was lovely and chatted with our kids throughout lunch.Smollet said:

Anywhere I can see race 3? Sky failed to record it and I can't find it on YouTube or catch up.
Thanks in advance
I'd imagine it'll either be on ITVX or the weekly round up shown later. Thanks in advance

I've camped there for the gt3.. this time last year and 7oaks also use it for grass autotests
How are people finding the smaller grid this year?
As a spectacle, I find it a little limp ...it feels like 1/3rd of the field is missing! Granted, I'm only watching on TV ... but last time I saw it live (Oulton Park 2019) the sight of a huge grid of cars rushing past you at the first corner was impressive. I do wonder if some of that is lost with the smaller grid.
It also removes the jeopardy of an off or a mechanical failure early in the meeting. "Battling back through the field" has now become, "pick off one or two back markers, hope there's a little attrition ahead, and you're already in the points again".
I get the quality over quantity argument ... but personally I preferred a bigger grid. The 20 at Brands felt pretty anemic.

Perhaps, once accepting the smaller grid, it would have made sense to have revised the points scoring system as well, down to top 12 rather than 15...?aeropilot said:

Its a bit crap to only have 20 cars on the grid for our premier series looks weak, and points for top 15 is crazy if there are only 20 starting should be point for top ten max. They are only 4 cars off the size of grid they want for the series though. Personally I'm really enjoying it so far. Yes the points are a bit odd but it's the same for everyone, it's not as though someone is gaining an advantage by the smaller grid.
Given the state of the economy over the last year and the massive price rises all businesses are having to deal with I'm amazed they managed to get 20 cars to be honest. The cheaper TCR series didn't get that many.

Camping is in a large field that enters the track behind the main straight/kentagon. Its a nice flat field and it seems to drain ok but thats about it, ,showers and wcs are portable blocks by the entrance.

Thanks for the info, we don't need a lot in the way of facilities a shower & loos are good enough for us, that's all we use at Thruxton so sounds good, will see if we can get booked up.I've camped there for the gt3.. this time last year and 7oaks also use it for grass autotests
