Haha hadn’t noticed the Psychic College sign rofl

Thanks Simon on the brakes recommendation also along with spec upgrades on the B8.5 - didn’t know that.

Throw in some Ohlins or KW’s and you could have quite the weapon!

The later B8.5 S4's have a updated engine; clutched supercharger, cast iron cylinder liners, port injection aswell as direct injection (no carbon buildup), completely different ECU, uprated charge cooling system and an updated DSG gearbox.

You can go for one large lower pulley (207mm) which gives the same ratio as a 'dual pulley' setup but with less risk of belt slip due to the 'larger' upper pulley compared to a normal dual pulley setup.

Traditionally always been a BMW guy and never thought I'd be into Audi's, but I do love my S4. Supercharger noise with a decent intake is intoxicating too biggrin

OP get it mapped - you won't regret it!
I think I’m sold! Wouldn’t mind some more supercharger noise also

How do you tell a later one from an earlier one? Quite fancy one of these but the tfsi carbon build up always put me off a bit.

Daily is a A6 Allroad, it’s been brilliant, just getting a bit bored of it.

Will check out CTS - thanks for the recommendation

On B8 vs B8.5, I think the later is just 2013 to 2015.

Not huge visual looks (B8.5 above):

Easiest way to tell, the upper supercharger pulley will have 4 bolts if it's the newer engine, very visible from the front of the engine with the bonnet open. The older engines have push fit upper pulleys so no bolts visible. However, with the clutched supercharger, that can fail - there are 'clutch delete' options available now though and it's generally only an issue if you go 'dual pulley'.

Great info, thanks. Is the auto a dsg type box? My a6 is an auto with paddles. It’s ok, just not very quick to respond. Tempted by a manual really, but autos are great for daily use.

Yes, DL501 DSG gearbox, it shifts really quick even standard but it's basically instant shifts after a gearbox map too.

Apologies for the dumb questions, I know nothing about Audis:

Is the engine in the 2017 model S4 avant (354bhp) the same as this?
2017 on is turbo, not supercharger - but still a 3.0 V6. Auto box instead of DSG.
2019 on S4 is a diesel....

Fastgerman, my story is almost identical! June 2015 S4, owned from new, now ~65K miles. Like yours, heavily discounted although direct from main dealer - and the only new car I've ever had. I blew a fair amount of the savings on the options list.

Like yours, now serviced by local indy. The only unscheduled visits have been a wheel bearing, an ABS ring/sensor, and a flapping undertray. No warranty work needed (despite taking out the 5 year warranty!), just the fuel rail recall on the CREC-engined cars.

Love these long term ownership stories. The longest I’ve kept a car is 6 years.

My uncle bought a new Mercedes C63 estate in the summer of 2010, he’s still got it, the car is still maintained by the supplying dealer, never scrimped on it, and he’s only done 50,000 miles in it. He’s 80 later this year and still a spirited driver at times!

It’s bloody lovely, one day I’d love it to be mine. No one else in the family cares about cars.

IIRC only the last of the B8.5's had the heavily revised "CREC" engine with extra injectors. Possibly MY2015 only?

The engine number on the V5 should start with CREC.

Hey Silentbrown, yes I remember your purchase on the B8 forum thread (it’s very difficult to find all the good info on that post now).

We will look old money in some more years time with our S4’s and C63’s:

Not sure the same can be said about all the SUV’s ;-)

I had a B8 S4 avant on a 2010 plate and it was a wonderful car, I did the revo stage 1+ on mine which was a pulley and then remap and gearbox map. I had an open air filter as well which sounded wonderful it was an injen one I think.. there’s a topic on here somewhere of mine. It’s quite a big part of the reason that I bought my current car which is a 2015 RS4 avant.

Keep enjoying it and letting us know the results of said enjoyment!
