It's just something that I had read, Mostly on american sites to be fair. It makes sense that the geometry will change with the height, I must admit I only change it if I am being a wally for a little while. I'm not sure how much difference it actually makes to the handling but it seems the right thing to do haha

Fitted a boot lip protector from https://rgmautomotive.co.uk/ seems to be a really good fit and looks like it will do the job.

Got myself a DA polisher and had a little go with it today, there’s definitely room for some more in depth polishing on some panels but as this was my first attempt I didn’t want to go too crazy!

I still wasn’t happy with the rear wiper as although it wasn’t catching now it had the correct blade there wasn’t the correct amount of tension on the arm to hold it on the window properly. I bought a new arm and as I couldn’t find my puller a new puller off Amazon as well. Having removed the nut and attempting to pull it the arm didn’t budge, I ended up having to pull the arm off the bush and then hacksaw the bush off the threaded section, then I had to wash the swarf off the back of the car. All good now though, pretty much all there is left to do is a proper machine polish when I get some better weather and then just get on with enjoying it!

Curious to hear how you get along with the Diesel S?

I'm tempted to dip my toes (even with diesel being about 30p/litre more expensive than petrol in Sweden.

Any big bills so far?

No big bills thus far (fingers crossed) definitely all the car that most people would need, I’ve averaged approx 27-28mpg but I do a lot of shorter journeys mixed in with occasional longer ones. The burmester stereo is excellent and the ride quality and comfort in the car are also excellent with the air suspension, the kids like it in the back and the dog prefers it to my E63 (much quieter). I’ve had quite a few compliments on the sound of the car, it does sound excellent for a diesel

Another thumbs up from me, I've put 24k on mine in about 18 months with no unexpected expenditure apart from a PAS cooler and the rectification of a truly weird electrical issue.

Even regular maintenance in that time has been limited to servicing, tyres, brakes and a bulb.

Compared to the RRS I ran prior, this car is a revelation and I cannot think what I would replace it with.

Thanks for the feedback!

I test drove one this summer and was smitten by the total package - truly "fun" to drive and sounds great (the Eu5 that is). I looked at a Eu6 version, but sounded just like any other diesel so a definite deal breaker for me.

Do you tend to drive in the lowered suspension mode or just leave it as is? Heard something about tire wear earlier in the tread - but liked the handling better in the lowered position on the one I test drove.

Tempted to add a tune (ecu & tcu) if I deciede to go for it - seems to really make a difference.

Any plans for it by the way?

Yeah mines the last of the EU5 ones so sounds good and no messing with ad-blue. It does also come up as EU6 when you check on the ULEZ checker so doesn’t come up for the ULEZ charge in London which is handy as well as we have relatives down there. I currently have a tuning box on it that I had kicking around (TDI-tuning) but will most likely be heading along to darkside developments after its service in the new year. I am not sure how many people provide a proper TCU tune for these which is unfortunate as I think it’s probably the weakest link when not in sport mode at least.

I pretty much only drive mine in the normal ride height setting, if I am pushing on, on a decent road I would lower it and stiffen up the suspension but 90% of the time it’s just at the normal ride height. I guess if you wanted to you could probably have it set up at the lower height setting to improve tyre wear?

Like others I thought all the diesel ones were V6s. rolleyes

It sounds like a great combination of practicality, performance and economy!

I remember reading an EVO article on Martin Brundle - the V8 diesel Cayenne was his daily driver of choice

It was the autocar video review that did it for me with Steve sutcliffe driving it hard.

Another recent v8d owner here. Great cars. Mine is on 21" with the air suspension and I find 'sport' (suspension) too brittle on anything other than smooth roads. Normal is a great compromise but I generally run it in Comfort suspension with Sport throttle.

The only thing I'm not sold on is the 8sp tip gearbox. I do find it quite sleepy unless you're really 'on it'. It doesn't seem quite as intelligent as a zf8 or pdk. I'm also interested in a remap although I'm not sure it's really necessary unless it sharpens the throttle significantly.

Yeah the gearbox is a bit too much like a normal auto compared to a ZF8 or the MCT that I had previously. It shifts quick enough when pressing on a little in sport mode but is a bit slushy just driving normally and doesn’t feel like it locks up quick enough.

I guess it’s not really a problem it just makes smooth progress all the time, I wouldn’t mind it locking up earlier and shifting like sport does in normal with sport another notch above.

I didn’t realise that you’d started another thread after the E63 so have just caught up and it is indeed an intriguing proposition.

With reference to the tyre wear with lowered suspension, absolutely… when you lower it the wheels are in a more negative camber setting and so will wear the insides quicker.

Gratuitous pic of mine. Pre-FL, 14-way seats, Bose, pan roof and Air PASM. A bit up on miles at 113k but change from £16k.

I'm a serial car buyer but I don't know what I'd change it for. Insurance was 40% of my Disco 4, and about half the tax too.

I've also just picked up a £5k S5 4.2L v8, so clearly I'm wholeheartedly embracing the move to EV...

Sounds a great spec, I’d be intrigued to hear the difference between the Bose and the burmester in mine as I believe it was something in the region of a 5k option when new!

I was having a chat with the guy who looks after my cars (West Tuning) asked about remaps he said it overcomes that initial hesitation when not driving in sport, I’ll probably get him to do mine next time it’s in (he’s just done my 993 and it’s throttle response is much improved).
He did the geo last time it was in, nothing too aggressive but it steers much more positively now, with no noticeable irregular tyre wear.

I definitely want to get mine remapped for that reason I find the car incredibly lazy in normal mode when pulling away from a junction.

Intriguing...on reflection I'm not sure how much extra strain I want to put on components given mine is on 116k now, but resolving the soggy throttle travel over the first few inches would transform the car.
