Lastly, brave of you using that jack! Worth the ~£50 for a trolley jack and axle stands smile

I bet your car will feel bloody amazing again now, hopefully you'll enjoy it again, whilst deciding what to do next smile.
Thanks Duncan. smile

I did have a small trolley jack on the other side of the car, and I had a couple of small axle stands at the rear of the car as a back up. However...I'm a bit of a stress head though, so I was expecting the worst to happen really!

I put my foot down yesterday a few times(granted the weather had warmed up a lot too at 15 degrees though), and the car did feel great. The current plan is to keep the car for another year I think, and then swap it for a G82 M4 xDrive all being well.
I love the fact you can afford some nice cars yet cant be trusted jacking one up biggrin

Its just a case of practice really, I can have all four wheels off mine in five minutes, jack and stands ready in their respective places in the garage, impact gun ready to go, keep a spare set in a plastic storage thing down the side of the house.

biggrin

It is just not something I do myself very often, and I think the last time I took a wheel off a car was the 640d, and that was sold years ago. I bought that little bottle jack only yesterday(I already had a trolley jack though), so that could get both wheels off the ground as well.

I quite enjoyed doing it really, although I do have a bit of a habit of being clumsy though, so I was pleased that I didn't damage the car in the process!

I have to admit that I'm surprised that the wheels haven't fell off yet...given that I was in charge of refitting them! hehe

Now that the new tyres are on, it is really pushing me to get the wheels refurbed ASAP as well.

To be fair it might have been a better idea to get the wheels refurbed then getting the new tyres fitted, but then your tyres were properly shagged. laugh

But if you were in charge of fitting the wheels I hope you used a torque wrench and checked them 100 miles or so later!

I'm not sure what is worse...me driving around on bald tyres, or me putting the wheels back on with the new tyres in fairness! hehe

And to be fair if they're overtightened to buggery then you won't be able to take them off so can save on the refurb, plus you can sell the car as is asap in case you get another flat which will accelerate the new car plan.

In fact Lee, this is just a cunning plan to change car next week.

It does seem as if I will do absolutely anything to avoid refurbing the wheels for sure Nick! laughthumbup

I had an F10 M5 come flying up behind me this morning, and then he overtook me a bit further up the road. My engine wasn't fully warm though, so I refused any engagement anyway(on a warm engine I'd have definitely had a bit of a play though).

However in my head I thought the F10 M5 would be loads quicker than the M4 until I looked the stats up. The M4 is 4.1 seconds to 60, and the M5 is 4.3 seconds to 60. Plus I'd imagine that there wouldn't be a lot in it across the other performance measures too, because the M4 is a fair bit lighter than the M5.

I just automatically thought that the M5 would've been loads quicker because of its V8 4.4 twin turbo engine, but obviously the weight of the car hampers it a bit though in reality.

It was good to see someone tanking around a bit I thought as well, because I don't see that happen much nowadays, with all the speed cameras/traffic volume etc. driving

Agreed Ross, and I would've thought that too. The extra bhp/torque in the M5 will start to show itself at those speeds I reckon.

I was amazed at how quick the next gen M5 with X drive was.

We went to see Top Gear being filmed on a filthy November day and in the way back one went past at a rate of knots. I was in my M140i on MPSS’s so let him get in with it. We was certainly carrying some serious speed.

That generation of M5 is properly rapid as you say Sam. I think they are booked at 0 to 60 in 3.3 seconds! driving

Plus 4wd will make them fast everywhere else for sure as well.

Not an M5 but I drove the M4 Xdrive and that thing was pretty rapid. One thing I will say is that the F90 M5 (and F10) sound really st for a V8.

I think that it is finally time for a new windscreen now. I picked a stone chip up in April of last year(I couldn't see it because it was behind the driver side instrument binnacle), and it has behaved itself up to now. However it now has just cracked today across the windscreen, and I can only imagine that it will get worse. Plus I can see it now when I'm driving it too.

I'm reluctant to go through the insurance because it gets classed as a claim(well it did on the Merc when I put a new one on that anyway). So I think I will look into pricing a windscreen up without using the insurance and go from there, and work out what the best plan of attack/cost is.

In other news...I still haven't got around to refurbing the wheels yet though! getmecoathehe

I wondered that with my insurance; but paid the £75 and had it replaced on my F31; hasn't effected my premium at all (it has gone up slightly as has everyones) but not enough to worry about it

A new windscreen and indy fitting will not be cheap full stop and you'd want at least OEM, which is Pilkington IIRC...

And stop faffing; get them wheels done biggrin
