KTM Superduke GT
Discussion
Evening All,
I have been tempted to get a KTM Superduke GT for a while now.
I have a sports bike for short blasts, but struggle to do more than a few hours on it and its not exactly comfortable for a passanger....
Hence the superduke gt - it sounds ideal for longer day rides, two up rides and some touring work, whilst still being fun to ride.
It sounds like the second generation is worth the step up from the first generation (even if the keyless start and fuel cap is prone to a few gremlins..)
With a slightly revised model due out in 2022 I'm looking at lower mileage gen 2, or even pre registered new bikes with a decent discount.
Any insights / thoughts?

It's a fair point, I guess I'd place a strong emphasis on the sports part of sports touring, and the GT sounds the closest to that with adventure bikes being a bit too tame for that.
I like the idea of being able to ride to Scotland in relative comfort, drop the panniers off and then blast around as if I was on a sports bike..
I had also considered the Kawasaki 1000sx.

Interesting time for a thread resurrection - I finally test rode one last week when I had time off work.
Effortless speed. Great punch from the engine but handled really well also.
Seating position was comfortable on a short blast, especially the reach to the bars, leg triangle was fine but might be more of an issue on longer rides.
Screen was fine up to 80 but wind blast was more noticeable from there up.
I also test rode a BMW XR and it felt tame by comparison. Refined, smooth, fast but tame....
I keep on going back and forth on whether to get a higher mileage mk2 vs a mk1. (gambling that they are capable of doing higher mileage without falling to bits...)
Ultimately I need to get off the pot and make a decision!

In the interests of closure... I finally got off the pot and picked up a 2017 Superduke GT.
Just under 18,000 miles with the big service already done.
Paid £6.3k with luggage and an old satnav thrown in which all in all feels like a decent deal.
I couldnt justify the extra money for a gen 2 when it is effectively the same bike with a slightly tweaked engine, a down quickshifter and a fancier screen when this is a second bike to compliment the sports bike that I intend on keeping (for now anyway...).
Looking forward to putting some miles on it now!

I'm the OP and finally got off the pot and picked up a gen 1 SD GT late last year.
I debated between the two generations for ages but ultimately a nice clean model came up for sale for around £6k with loads of touring gear and I just couldnt justify the extra money for the new model when it was evolution rather than revolution between the old and the new.
The older model is a bit lumpy at lower revs, I have read that the newer model has changed to some titanium bits in the engine to help smooth this out.
All said though I love it - great fun to ride but can easily do a full day riding it.
Did a weekend tour around Wales last weekend with a buddy, and am off to the IOM TT on it at the end of May.
I changed to a powerbronze touring screen as I found the stock screen too low (I think the Puig one is probably better but its so tall I think its a bit ugly..)
I'd happily recommend it.
My only gripe is that its tough to get the Givi panniers off the frame, its almost like the catch doesnt lift enough to clear the frame mounts when you turn the key. If anyone has any suggestions on this I'd gratefully take them!
