I have an Apple TV arriving tomorrow, providing I get working what I want to get working, that will be the end of our Sky sub next week

I'm also on the cusp of cancelling (again!)

Seems to be creeping up all the time and I'm now at £100 a month, for something we barely watch. That does include netflix, but when you add on prime, Disney, Spotify etc it adds up frighteningly quickly

I ditched Sky back in September when they wanted to up my subscription to almost £80 a month! I really don't miss it. I use Apple TV now for the streaming apps, live TV and catchup.

I also decided to put a good chunk of what I used to spend on Sky into a 'guilt free frivolous purchases' account, which has just bought me a very nice Dolby Atmos soundbar thumbup

Can anyone advise me what alternative I have if i cancel Sky please

currently have sky Q with multi room and HD and have been looking to cancel for years.
But their user interface is so good i cant cancel. I find it lick , efficient and very eye friendly.

I only watch channel1-5 terrestrial channels. Where i mainly record shows/series to watch at a time convenient to me. I rarely watch live tv.

Is there anything that offers something similar. Mainly the recording and playback of shows. Or would i have to rely on streaming sites?

Any smart TV will work I should think. They've all got native apps for those channels.

If that's pretty much all you watch that would work well.

It's all streaming but is that a problem?

The smart tv probably won’t be able to record. We have Sky Stream but also fed up with price hikes. Think I can get out in August.

I just use the streaming apps on the smart TV. You can't record but you don't need to as the programme usually appears on the app within a couple of hours of it airing

Only thing I slightly miss is not having a EPG to see what's on I might want to watch. You have cut down versions within the apps but not one that covers it all.

Don't miss it enough to pay money to replace it though.

You can cancel Sky Stream instantly (or at least I could).

It'll depend on whether he's on an 18 month contract or a monthly rolling surely?

I signed up to an 18 month contract and they still let me cancel. And it was cancelled on the day, not even 31 days notice.

I have an 18 month contract that ends this summer. I like the system but like others here fed up with the price hikes.

We used to have Freesat which was excellent but a Sky dish is difficult for us now. We tried Freeview but that was nothing like as good.

Does anyone know of another product we could try? We connect online though we do have an ariel in the roof which we could use.

What's your budget and what do you want to watch?

If you mean budget for a viewing box rather than monthly subscription I really don’t mind. It’s the monthlies peeing me off.

This is the situation I'm in.

The Sky Q box is great - I don't really watch much live and the interface is very slick.

I've got until the end of the month as I've already given my notice

Only arrived yesterday and I haven't had a chance to touch it yet beyond taking it out of the box. Hopefully will get a chance to setup this evening

I used to only watch recorded programmes but now I have a Roku stick I am happy to watch on demand. The only issue for you is that you would need one for each tv unless you already have smart tv.

I use one instead of Sky.

Appreciate some people will want the sports or something only Sky can do but it's an amazing bit of kit.

Saved me a small fortune.

Our LG TV records, just needed to add a memory stick/solid state drive. You schedule through the TV planner and can set recurring/series link type stuff too, but to be honest, we just use the iPlayer, ITVX etc apps and stream. One annoyance coming off sky is the sky q LNB doesn’t work with free sat and I can’t be bothered to go up and change it. If I get ladders out it will be to take down the dish
