Couldn’t they use I carly to plug into motorbike which would give the VIN ?

Feel bad for Rory, The others were all goading him into buying it. And these are supposed to be experts in buying.

Now it’s all laughing at him for it being stolen.

How childish.

Disappointing.

Who on earth is Cakey?
Anyone who’s followed his videos knows that, on occasion, he struggles to pronounce certain words. An analysis of Cakey’s posts shows a 99.7% correlation of him misspelling those same words. Are the references to Shmee an attempt to distract or latent hostility because of his greater success?

Seriously, if the comments are as reported, I’m not sure they give the impression that he was going for. Strange for someone who has a background in marketing and public relations.

They love us discussing their content. The issue for me is:

“I found the address for the Shmuseum”
“I looked on companies house and he made X profit”
“His missus works at X”

Etc…
I agree with two of your examples, but you do realise that Companies House is a public record? It’s designed to be able to quickly and easily find information.

For example, if a YouTuber were to misrepresent their business interests, you don’t think that a thread that started out asking if they were a scam would be an appropriate place to correct such information?

Yep. It was interesting to hear how the business arrangement between the guys works.

I knew, as I'm sure most did that Alex didn't own Car Throttle or have any say, he was just an employee and the "face" of most of the videos. Then he left to start his own channel, AutoAlex.

I didn't know that Top Dead Centre (Edwin and Will) and All The Gear (Jack and Ethan) were funded/part owned by Alex, albeit with far more freedom and ownership for the channel teams than they had in the CT days. I thought it was CT just going down the toilet so the guys independently left. Makes sense that they'd share resources/hang around together as they were mates for years, but didn't know there's a much closer business arrangement.

I thought CarThrottle was really good after Alex left (he's not my cup of tea) with Jack, Ethan and Edwin. Hopefully they all do well. I can see a space for all, AA can do most of the dicking around with cars content, TDC the "serious" rebuilds/technical stuff, ATG a bit more travelogue/alternative content. Think the latter will have a bit more of a struggle, given that the old audience may not be as natural a fit. It's a bit further away from the good bits of CT than we know and love. But I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it.
What I suspect will happen is 3 channels all doing the same ideas, TDC just feels like AA V3 already.

Fair play to him for doing it but I cannot see the view count staying high, people will soon pick and chose.
You might want to save this for prosperity:

AA – BBC1, Sunday nights 8pm to replace Top Gear
AA V2 & TDC – BBC 4 mid week 9pm to replace James May
AA Podcast – BBC Sounds
ATG - BBC 2 to compete with the Gadget Show.

Give it a couple of years…

New twist in the fate of Matt Armstrong's Sue over on Tavarish's channel. It is a parts car....
Watching it now, it's very weird, why not have just got this none driving Rolls in the first place?

I'm taking from the "gamble" is the amount of money he will make from Youtube, He said he as going to the show with it so he was probably going anyway and thought maybe a boost to his views in conjunction with Mat would be something to do for a few days, Sam Hard the dealer knows Mat, I'm sure they have been in videos before and he would have offered it to mat.

This is there job, they know exactly what they are doing months in advance (maybe not crashing the lambo!) and its for our entertainment, to be honest I quite likes the Tavarish's video, I got bored with the P1 build but do watch his second channel stuff.

Like other channels I used to watch but got bored of due to the repetition (Salvage rebuilds springs to mind) I find Mat, Tavarish, Chris Slix all entertaining and make time to watch them, I like Rob and Chris but just found it got a bit stale, I rarely even look what they are up to now.

Does anyone watch Mark McCann? His latest video is scary. Threats to family etc etc and something I guess all YTers should be aware of when posting their house etc on vids.

I used to hate MM but I’ve grown to love his videos.
I am of the same views on everything you've said.

Kind of a bad ad for CV then.

The one time they actually use it for something it fails them confused
Yes and no to which I thought the same. The cloned bike was all fine, When they get the vin from the ECU they do a CV check and says stolen.

I imagine it’s a question of timing. The flood-damaged car wasn’t available when Matt needed it, so he bought the other parts car instead. There’s no point in him repairing a second Wraith on his channel, so Freddie takes it on for his audience.

Indeed, the whole point of cloning is to give something a clean title from a clean vehicle that won't get picked up on searches if you don't know the original identity. If CV or HPI had the data to say it was cloned then so would the police, and the criminal cloning industry would get shut down.

I'm catching up on content and watching the TDC Nurburgring trip. I must say I take issue with the implications they got seriously tanked up overnight on a road trip. That's not cool.
To be fair, that wasn't the dodgiest thing in that video - I'm sure riding along in a car on a trailer on a motorway isn't particularly safe or legal.
Did think the same, not big or clever to show them in the video.
I wondered if there was some careful editing in the mix. Not sure why they'd want to imply law breaking, but in the external shots of the car on the trailer, I struggled to see any occupants. Perhaps they weren't in it whilst on the move? Or it might have been permitted under the terms of whatever filming permits they had for the trip.

Also, when we did eventually see Will, he seemed remarkably fresh for someone who had been up all night/morning. I wonder if they missed a day to let him recover.

The latest AA Podcast has some interesting insights to how the business works and the relationship between the channels. Id always thought Rory was a bit of a waste of space, but I can see now that Alex relies on him quite heavily for some of the business operations/ideas (and some of the cash too).

The first time the 924 is shown it is obvious that people were inside the car

I'm not sure it is illegal. Unwise, maybe, but illegal? As long as they've got seatbelts on then I'm not sure which law they are breaking?

You are allowed to sit in a car being transported on a flatbed in this country but not on a trailer. I don't know which country they were in when they did that but they were almost certainly breaking the law.

To be fair to Salvage Rebuilds they are effectively just documenting on camera what they have been doing for years without a camera. They aren't deliberately buying outrageous exotic cars just for the views. They must be doing alright regardless as when the channel started Chris had a Fabia Estate and now hes got a 24 plate Defender 110!

So to me, it has highlighted that CV has a major flaw.

You now search CV and get a clear check .... so long as it hasn't been stolen and VIN swapped...

I have brought this up several times on this thread. Car vertical clearly state they will prevent you buying a stolen car. That simply isn't true. When I have highlighted this fact, some (potentially those that are sponsored by CV) have come on here and said "what do you expect, they put in wrong info". My point is they claim to protect the consumer from something they simply can't protect them from.

I now see several of long time sponsored channels showing the obvious flaws in CV. Matt Armstrong has said many times the Rashford Rolls does not flag up as being crashed on CV because it was not registered by the insurance company. I know he has shown the photos which to me seals the failure. Their own APP shows the massive accident but does not flag it!
