We just finished the second series, and thought it was much better than series 1. Bren must be just about the nastiest character I've ever seen. No redeeming qualities at all, just downright evil. Even Putin would think twice!

How did you get Season 2? Are you in the UK?

Cliched; but watchable, as i like moody crime dramas.
As said above they have their useless moments for a successful crime family!

I'm in the UK, but everything's available, everywhere. Best not link on this forum though.

Took me about 4 episodes to work it all out in my head.

Well I had that wrong. I thought that Frank, Birdie, Michael & Jimmy were all siblings. And that Bren was their uncle (dad's brother). I had no idea that Frank and Birdie were a generation up from Michael and Jimmy, and were Bren's siblings.

He reminds me of the late Paul O'Grady, but with less menace.
That was the point, though. He became the head of the family by default and instead of striking fear into underlings and competitors - which he was unable to do - he preferred to ride along on the gang's success and have a good time. All the time it worked, he was fine. When it started to unravel, he couldn't cope.

Bren's assessment of Frank's credibility, "Look at you. You look like a fking hairdresser."

Cheers found S2. Enjoyed it and thought it was as good as S1.What an animal Bren is.

Not sure of the relevance of the sub-plot of Mikey's affair with the chemist though. Didn't seem to add anything.

Just finished S1. On the whole a decent watch if a little slow in the middle. I assumed Birdy and Frank were married as they seemed to live together and she just turned an eye to his other “interests”. Seems from the family tree posted above they are actually siblings.

Did I miss the parts where they explained what Michael and Bren were inside for?

The strange parts was the Kinsellas popping out on their own when they know huge bounties on their head and then Eamonn the same.

Bren said he wished he left Birdy in charge. Yet she was the one who initially talked Frank out of Amandas plan to pin it on Eric. I assumed due to maternal instinct as thought she was his mum but she isnt.

Michael was inside for killing his daughter, Anna's, mother. It was a large part of the storyline, and the the main reason for him being ordered to keep away from her.

Bren? I guess it could have been any one of a million reasons, if he was playing to type.

I enjoyed it bar the terrible acting from mayor Carcetti (how has this guy stole a living as an actor?) anyone know when BBC are showing season 2?

Oops bit of a brain fart on Michael. Although I only recall conversation about him killing her by accident as was out of it (on drugs presumably) but no detail on how.

Finished last night and I also enjoyed it, but it's full of oddness and holes.

Some spoilers may be below...

Birdy - who the feck is she. I sort of understand her senior role in the family, and from the family tree posted earlier, she's a sibling but she sort of just swanned around mostly until the later episodes. Her dominance and respect only came through then - before she seemed like a fluffy aunty offering a warm bed when needed.

Bren - similarly, barely mentioned until later on. The prison seen was brilliant. I wish he'd been in the show all the way through. Sequeal would be great wit his release.

Casting was good but strange. As others say, Frank was a bit of a wet blanket, but it mostly was fine and it was a good downward spiral which was a bit more original then other similar shows where the violent head of the family just gets shot or shoots someone.

The focus on the younger kids was annoying and added very little. Trying to keep them safe, then lots of tit-for-tat. It was all a bit woolly. I can see why it was needed, leverage and a weakness but seeing it repeatedly was tiring.

So overall, a good show and I binge watched the last 3 episodes in the early hours as I couldn't sleep. Went to bed about 4am fairly entertained.

in the first series when there was a huge bounty on their heads for stealing the drugs, they were all still living at home??

The second series is largely based around Bren. He's mesmerising. And evil...

Also finished it last night. As mentioned, too many plot holes.
The whole stock of drugs stored in the same place. Surely spread it about.
No GPS tags on it.
Able to steal them so easily.
And when stolen, just left in a Transit van in a car park (presumably with a No drugs left in this vehicle overnight sticker on the back)
Security for the families was just a couple of coppers in an Astra etc.
I know it's only fictional entertainment, but put a bit more effort into it!

That cracked me up too.

Eamon putting out a 500k Euro bounty on them all, with the entirety of Dublin looking for them. Yet they're all still at home in a modest looking house with two wooden tops outside playing on their phones.

Haven't seen s2 yet, but he'll be going some to beat Curtis from Top Boy. That actor nailed the terrifying persona. I've been around some very scary people and that was as close as I've seen to real life.

I've just started episode 3 but struggling. It's so slow. There are so many minutes of blurry/arty shots of a car driving. It's extremely slow and wish it would speed up.
Maybe why the last episode felt so rushed!

I was convinced Bren and Birdy were man and wife, Frank was the oldest son with Jimmy and Michael the other two sons.

Just finished Season 2.

Frank is still alive? WTF?? I can only assume they thought they'd just get one season and when they got a second one thought they needed a biggish name still in the series.

Overall we enjoyed it. Still has plot holes you could drive a bus through but entertaining to watch.
