There is always a Costco stand at our school fete - I’m guessing you can buy membership / bend rules if you don’t qualify?

We had a look round ours when it opened (can’t remember how), I just chalked it up as I’d buy stuff I never needed and haven’t been back!

That said, I have seen some slick kids parties that are all Kirkland stuff

Pretty happy with ours.
We dropped into our Leicester one around 3 yesterday afternoon - super quiet.
Picked up a few essentials, joined a short queue at the tills and headed out.

I know weekends are manic - a time to avoid....

Have noticed you have to be careful - not everything is the bargain you expect. We spend less there, & often cross check with our local large Morrisons - last check showed that tuna was cheaper there than Costco....
Great price on some comfy Sketchers though wink

The big thing motoring related was they used to be very good on Michelin tyres - they'd be as cheap as the cheapest places normally, then they'd have frequent 20% off deals.

They've obviously had some kind of parting of the ways with Michelin as they sell various other brands now, and the discount (when offered) is a fixed amount of £ so much less than it was in percentage terms, especially as tyres have got dearer.
They still are cheaper for Michelins fitted than anywhere else during the discount period, at least in my area.

For groceries I never buy anything at Costco that can be bought elsewhere as Costco is never the cheapest. But I do like certain products you can only buy there, such as the Rollover frankfurters, duck buns and gyoza.

I had a year's trial membership when I worked in an office near the Reading branch. The office used to buy their Kirkland pizzas for events and I found them worse than awful. In fact I found nothing there that I wanted or needed and didn't much like having to show my receipt to a security bod when exiting right after having paid, so I didn't renew my membership. It MIGHT be worth it if you have a big family or run a school or a business, but as an individual it was completely pointless. I've just looked up where the nearest one is to me and it's Sunbury-on-Thames, 25 minutes away. No thank you!
Easy to recoup the £30 though on fuel alone.
Unless you have an EV!
Or do very few miles! Apart from my annual road trip where I'm abroad for a few weeks, I probably do 2000 miles a year max.

Often Michelin have a cash back offer but it doesn’t apply to purchases from Costco so other places can end up cheaper. Last set I got were from Tyres on the Drive (owned by Halfords) who had 15% off.

I’m not up on grocery prices - wife tells me they’re not really cheaper but everything is good quality.

Not too bad in Sheffield. I only joined last year though so can't compare with the good old days.

Absolutely pointless for me being a single chap. I've already bulk bought all the consumables I could ever need. Should be good now until I'm dead. Other than fuel, I like the random stuff you only see in there. Dry Roasted Almonds are a fave. I bought a giant Toblerone too which was a hit at Christmas. Trade account so usually go in the week when I'm off. Ten AM sharp before they let the plebbery in.

I find it relatively painless to be honest. And I hate shopping with a passion. But I figure that if I buy all the dreary stuff in bulk, I'll have to go shopping less. The checkout staff are very efficient so the queues move fast. The staff seem friendly enough, one chap always seems up for a chat about cars.

It's always a shock at the till though. HOW MUCH?!

You need to wait until it's £50 off per Michelin tyre. That's when you get the big saving. That's also pretty much the only time I go to Costco now.

Never been to one, Leeds used to be the closest. Is it a bit like the old Tradex stores?

Every three months or so Costco runs a promotion with £100 off a set of 4x Michelin in 19", or £80 for 4x 18". They had this promotion earlier this month. Right now it's Bridgestone on promotion.

Factor in £8.40/tyre for fitting which is vastly cheaper than anywhere else in my area, and that makes for good prices during the promotional period.

Their tyre fitters are good as well, in my experience.

Their prices are OK, and I agree about the work the fitters do, although their attitude can be variable, and our Costco always seems short staffed - they blame staff turnover and sickness.

£20 off per tyre is nothing like as good as 20% now that many tyres are approaching £200 each.

My one in Farnborough is fine.

I've saved a lot on a few large(ish) tech purchases over the last year or 2 - just about to (maybe...) buy a Mac Studio M1 Max for £1299 which is cheaper than a used one.

I was driving from London to Devon on Sunday and thought I’d pop into the Bristol store to fill up. I have noticed it’s getting busier over the last few months but the queue to enter the car park was almost 1/4 of a mile, I turned round. Apparently Tuesday’s are the busiest because it’s a trade day, but everyday seems busy and I’m now questioning whether I’ll renew.

Ours is 5 mins away I primarily use it for petrol as it’s considerably cheaper than other stations. As for the shop itself I haven’t been in for about 12 months.

I use the Chester one, but I do find that it's increasing being used by the Chav types or those of a Honda Jazz persuasion that dither about.

This...all day long.

What really pisses me off, is getting to the checkout only to find most of the people in the queue and their 'guests' are paying separately for stuff in their trolley.

Oh frown We quite often do that if I've bought something(s) for work that I can expense.

I do think the thing about Costco being for professionals is a bit daft - most people in the one we go to seem on the manual labour end of things. It's also a bit odd the way they let entire companies of people join, yet won't let someone else who doesn't meet one of their eligibilty criteria.

No, that i get and is discrete.

It's when daughter, mum and nan bicker about which stuff belongs to who, then dither about packing, paying, passing the daughters Costco card back and forth to the cashier etc..

Like jumping in to see what specials are on. However everytime I go in I come out £100 lighter without fail.

Glasgow is always mobbed aswell so usually plenty of clowns blocking up the isles as they look at 17 piece pot and pans kits.
