I think I’m too posh as I’ve never been a member and reading this thread, never will be. I’d rather pay more

Surely you can send the butler?

Different Costco’s do have a different vibe.
Made the error of popping into the Watford one many years ago: jeez, what a dirty-feeling scrumfest. Maybe because it was around Christmas, but felt rough.

Newer ones are quite smart. Leicester & Coventry for example: clean, tidy, usually some samples being dished out.
As other say, great for tyres, & because they ONLY do tyres, they are not upselling you something.
Cafe hit’n’miss….but at least we have screens to order from now and take a ticket, if we are in the mood for a bargain jacket spud, etc.

Used the Edinburgh branch once but never again and have now cancelled 'membership'
Dreadful experience topped off with some ape of a 'security' guard stopping us on the way out to check we had paid for the items in the trolley.

I don't go on a weekend to Costco, usually go an hour or two before it closes during the week. I haven't seen any food samples in a long time.

The tyres don't seem to be as good price wise as they used to be.

I used to pop into the one at Sheffield on a weekend to fill up, don't bother anymore. Queues onto the industrial unit on a Sunday. Is it that much cheaper than the other filling stations?

Yes.

Anyone doing decent miles per year will save hundreds of pounds.

I meant the one at Sheffield, the queues on a weekend are crazy. 5p a litre cheaper?

I was in the Derby store a couple of weeks ago and it was busy as ever, I did notice a lot of shoppers buying cases of bottled water, why what’s so special? Bizzare

Not always. Closest one to me (many miles away) is Haydock. Diesel is currently £1.44ppl. Local Shell garage is the same price. Add in the cost of membership and filling at Costco would be more expensive for me.

There isn't one near me, about an hour away is the closest. Though we have ordered online from them before....

It’s £0.18 per bottle if you buy by the pallet (40 x cases of 12). Doubt the single packs are £0.05 each.

Ape?
Bizarre comment.
Just doing their job. They have to ‘check’ all trolleys in order to be able to properly stop the more obvious scamps trying it on.
Sometimes it can slow down the exit, but not off peak times, & really doesn’t make for a dreadful experience.
Have some banter with those doing their job instead of just denigrating them, perhaps.

Depends if there's an offer with the voucher booklets.

It is about one twelfth of a penny for 500ml for tap water. Why would you buy your water anywhere else?

Have only been a member for a couple of years so still novelty.
Have probably been 6 times but would still be up on the deal.
Can’t say it’s particularly nice or fun but that’s not its usp.
Meat choice is particularly good though.

It's actually around 20x that price (if you're on a meter). If not, then it's effectively free.

At Haydock Costco Unleaded is 135.9p, SuperUnleaded is 141.9p and Premium Diesel is 144.9p. At Shell Haydock Island Unleaded is 147.9p, SuperUnleaded is 166.9p and Premium Diesel is 167.9p.

The savings for someone doing 15,000 mile per year at 40mpg are :

Unleaded £205
SuperUnleaded £426
Premium Diesel £392

Costco don't do standard diesel, so I imagine you're not comparing the same prices. But even paying the 158.9p for standard diesel at Shell you'd save £240 a year going to Costco.

I enjoy going to Costco, but always try to go when I'm not hungry!

It's impossible to go there and not come out having spent at least £200, no matter what you go in there for.

I'm a 'trade' member so do try and go inside of these times. The sandwich platters are excellent, the fiery chicken tenders are excellent - always have a bag of them in the freezer to chuck in the air fryer when I'm hungry.

Kids love walking round sampling everything. Fuel as mentioned is worth it.

Mum and dad have had membership for years cant remember when we started going, but I'd say its gone proper down hill over the last 5 years. I think it was when they started introducing these corporate memberships , the large company I work for can get membership. It's like a family day out for a lot of them.

I was hoping the MK one would get a fuel station but it hasn't yet. If I have to go I will go at 10 on a mid week day.
