P&H have a sub 600 mile Evo with everything unlocked and first service done for £13,700.

They were firm at £17k for the same model this time last year, albeit new.

Thanks, I saw it was irreversible and thought I'd better seek some input before pulling the trigger!
It's good, but wish it still had the anti dive that was brilliant with a pillion, but sadly that is lost.

It is, and it's got a baffle in. I might change it

Although, only on throttle really. And also, you don't hear it much on the bike, but behind/off the bike it is a bit loud

Apologies for the thread revival but thought that was preferable to starting a new one with the same title!

I’ve been looking at adding a fun, fast sporty touring bike. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a SDGT or a V4 Pike’s Peak. The PP looks great to my eyes - had a really good look round one last week but it’s very, very expensive. I don’t love the looks of the SDGT as much but hard to look past the fact that it’s half the price!

Anyone ridden both?

Question for owners - I’ve never managed to find a bike / screen combo that actually works properly. I’ve had screens that protect my chest but force all the air around the bottom of my helmet and I end up going without as at least the air is clean.

If I’m going to tour on this, I have to be able to sit for a few hours at 80mph on a motorway with a reasonable amount of wind protection. I see there are a number of screen size options available from KTM. Does the larger screen actually make for a quieter ride? Any and all opinions gratefully received.

Surely the SAS 1290 is the natural competitor to the pikes peak ?

None of the Old Gits have had any screen/wind blast issues riding 500+ miles in a day across France and into Germany on SD1290GT (or H2SX, K1300S, VFR800 etc.) at sustained speeds of 85-90mph on autoroutes/autobahns.

Just avoid motorways and have fun on A & B roads and then wind blast becomes secondary to actually "Having a Blast !"

I picked up a "high miles" (43k) snotter towards the end of summer. It was well used and fairly unloved SD GT that had not seen the business end of a hosepipe for a while.

.....

I think its turned out well
I've now added some more touches to it.

Also swapped out the Arrow for this MIVV, looks and sounds much better to me!

And I've had the suspension completely redone by T-Tech - amazing job

The lower shock bearing was completely destroyed, as the drain hole had clogged up with crap from the rear tire. I guess if you own one and ride in the rain often, ensure the swingarm hole is clear of debris/dirt.

As for wind buffeting, this is probably the best bike I've ever had for high speed constant cruising - and I'm 6'7". I've got the puig touring screen and its pretty damn good.

I rode the V2 Multistrada and the calibration was completely different to the KTM, it was much softer, calmer and what you might expect an adventure bike capable of doing miles in mud might feel like. (Multistrada is an ADV bike, the KTM GT is road based only) The V4 could be completely different so you'd need to ride it to know for sure, but the KTM 1290 GT is calibrated for street riding, it's very quick to respond and feels eager.

I also have trouble with screens, I like free flowing air on my head, so I bought a shorter screen and still cut 20mm from the top. I get air on my chest but it's calm air straight over my neck and head which is very quiet. But I didn't try a taller screen as virtually every bike I've had has buffeted my head and the best solution I found was a short screen to get straight, laminar flow.

As black-k1 says, I've done whole days with the OG and 700 miles on my own in a day from UK to the Alps, no problems at all, I'm 6'1" and the KTM is just the perfect bike with the legroom and performance to deal with long days. The heated seat is also quite comforting too, well worth the £250 !

I tend to buy older bikes and jumped ship from an FJr1300 to an ST1050 a couple of years ago and the jury is still out on whether or not i am enjoying it. I really, really like the look of the SDGT though. licklove

Hah well i'll jump in as a shortie at 5'8. I have the Puig touring screen on mine, with an adjustable extra thing, whatever that piece is called. Visor! That's it. Not confusing at all. As black-k1 says, it's all day comfortable. My target was to try and make it as quiet as possible in my helmet when sat on boring motorways. I even went as far as 3D printing an extendy bit for said visor so I could raise it up even higher. Made bugger all difference though.

The Puig touring screen does make it quieter than the stock screen for me though. I put the stock on a couple of weeks back and noticed the noise. No head buffeting for me though, never had that problem. My hat is a GT-Air fyi.

I do love this bike, though the below keeps happening due to how quickly these look dirty:

I've got new stuff to try with the aim of making it 'easier to clean'.

Oh! I must say also that if you do get one of these, the ability to add the Track Pack (for an annoying fee) has made the bike a whole new level of hilarious for me. I'm looking forward to the OGs trip and tinkering with the settings! (Mainly it's a sharper throttle setting, launch and wheelie stuff, plus 9 levels of TC. And whatever else I forgot. Oh, a different optional dash layout when in that Ride Mode)

I haven’t ridden any of the 4 so you may know more than me but I had assumed MS V4 vs SAS would be one comparison and SDGT vs MS PP would be another. Am I wrong?

I’ve got bikes for that. I’m only going to buy something that can definitely be used for touring.

Seem like a lot of love for the SDGT. Anyone here ridden a Pikes Peak for comparison?

If I’m completely honest, I do prefer the looks of the PP (by quite a lot) but I don’t think I want to spend that much. It is quite literally a full bike more expensive! Is is better? Much better?

Will try and get a test ride obviously but interested in any opinions from the PH massive.

Same. Although I only noticed in the last couple of years as I've always had nakeds up to then.

The grass isn't greener on the other side.

Maybe full on tourers are better than the sporty ones.

I’m trying to familiarize myself with the model history.

Other than the TFT dash upgrade - what are the main differences between the original and the 2019 / 2020 facelift?

Am I right in saying there was a further facelift / update in 2023?? If so, same question - what were the upgrades?
