I’m trying to familiarize myself with the model history.

Other than the TFT dash upgrade - what are the main differences between the original and the 2019 / 2020 facelift?

Am I right in saying there was a further facelift / update in 2023?? If so, same question - what were the upgrades?
I have the 2018 model GT, in 2019 it gained a down shifter with blip as well as up shifter (mine has up, not down), TFT screen (mine is LCD with a large analogue tacho) , I think the option of keyless was available, the exhaust valves were titanium to raise the rev limit and add 2bhp and a couple of styling changes like a black splash guard at the lower front of the engine rather than silver and a little plastic phone holder near the dash. The suspension software was changed and it's quite a bit better but this upgrade is available free of change from any KTM dealer with a service for older bikes. The engine calibration was updated to make it slightly smother but it's difficult to tell the difference.

Basically, unless you're really in need of a TFT screen and a down shifter, the earlier bikes are the same as the later bikes if you upgrade the suspension software, which I'd recommend you do as it's a lot better in every mode.

I've now added some more touches to it.

Also swapped out the Arrow for this MIVV, looks and sounds much better to me!

And I've had the suspension completely redone by T-Tech - amazing job

The lower shock bearing was completely destroyed, as the drain hole had clogged up with crap from the rear tire. I guess if you own one and ride in the rain often, ensure the swingarm hole is clear of debris/dirt.

As for wind buffeting, this is probably the best bike I've ever had for high speed constant cruising - and I'm 6'7". I've got the puig touring screen and its pretty damn good.
Looks absolutely fantastic! - you’ve done a great job. I’m the chap who sold her to you after 40k miles of using her as a commuting snotter. It is a tribute to KTM that apart from the odd warning light they just keep ploughing on and on.

Ah brilliant! I was wondering if I should have sent you some update photos. Yeah, its such a brilliant bike, and its feeling like new now. One or two small touches to go and it will be done, ready for another 40k!

I recently had my rear shock serviced by Luke at T-tech. Amazing service and that dude certainly knows his stuff when it comes to suspension.

My lower bearing had also gone and was partly the reason for the leak. Was interesting getting it all back together!

I was tempted to ask him to put an oranage spring in mine but after seeing yours I will do next time!

Switchgear also changed. The gen 1 have the cruise control on the same side as the throttle, so difficult to operate. Buttons changed again on the Gen 3 with improved economics and a bigger TFT. Front light with DRL was the obvious styling change but the front lights are also LED with an intake in the middle.

I'm the OP and finally got off the pot and picked up a gen 1 SD GT late last year.

I debated between the two generations for ages but ultimately a nice clean model came up for sale for around £6k with loads of touring gear and I just couldnt justify the extra money for the new model when it was evolution rather than revolution between the old and the new.

The older model is a bit lumpy at lower revs, I have read that the newer model has changed to some titanium bits in the engine to help smooth this out.

All said though I love it - great fun to ride but can easily do a full day riding it.
Did a weekend tour around Wales last weekend with a buddy, and am off to the IOM TT on it at the end of May.

I changed to a powerbronze touring screen as I found the stock screen too low (I think the Puig one is probably better but its so tall I think its a bit ugly..)

I'd happily recommend it.

My only gripe is that its tough to get the Givi panniers off the frame, its almost like the catch doesnt lift enough to clear the frame mounts when you turn the key. If anyone has any suggestions on this I'd gratefully take them!

Is KTM branded language GIVI?

If so, I take the fixtures and fittings are the same and a standard givi top box will fit on a KTM rack

I think Shad make the KTM fitted luggage, whoever they are. The Givi luggage in the picture isn't the KTM stuff so I've no idea, google suggests it needs a separate rack which is probably what the poster is talking about. The KTM panniers drop into two silver slots built into the subframe and another U shaped piece fits over the rear footrest guard to hold the panniers in place, KTM say it's safe for 110mph but they remain installed at over 150mph.

The KTM pannier mechanisms do need oiling or they get stiff, but they do work very well, I guess the same is true for Givi ?

Evening,

Yes its an aftermarket rack.

Pannier sits in two bobbins at the bottom and then locks in at the top.

Top box works fine but the side panniers wont release and there doesnt seem to be any adjustment in the rack or mechanism..

I’ve just pulled the trigger on a new ‘24 GT. Got a cracking deal as it looks like KTM are shifting the last of the 1290 stock before releasing the 1390.

I’m trading in a Gen 2 Superduke R so I’m expecting everything to be fairly similar with a bit more comfort. Pick it up next Saturday.

Enjoy. I had a street triple before the GT and rode it without a screen. I don't understand how anyone can hang on at speed. I got a small screen and when I upgraded, had to buy a big bike with a screen. GT just fits the bill and I'm sure I can go quicker without "clean air" trying to rip me off the bike.

Still thinking about doing the front or rear cog so I can cruise in 6th.
