Recent prog on BBC4
From his early teen days to his current (well 2019) days. Covers a lot of the stuff I know anyway but great to see him still going strong, even if his voice has started to fail a little. Coming from the same locality as myself, if a little earlier, I enjoyed the hour.

The North East was never the hotbed the likes of Liverpool, Manchester and London were in terms of numbers produced of musical talent but certainly made up for it in terms of quality

Aye, too far from London and the southerners couldn't get the accent. (Although they managed the Liverpool one).
Never got to see the Animals live but did see Hylton Valentine play countless times as HV's Animals.
North East did produce some good bands, from Geordie and Brian Johnson of course to Dire Straits, Sting from Last Exit, I've a few CDs of local bands, mostly from the 70's, some of which continued on to other things, others such as the Juncos were still going in the 21st Century...
Anyone remember Goldie, (claim to fame - went to school with Dave Black). i don't live in the NE anymore, do The Caffreys still play?
East Side Topedoes/88s. Top band, never quite made it, Neil Hunter, Brendan Healey, Lindolf D'Olivera, Nigel Stanger leading a superb brass section. Neil still singing with the Spitfires I think, Brendan and Nigel no longer with us.
Happy Happy Days....

Edit: And Lindisfarne of course..

....not forgetting Hank Marvin, Paul Rodgers, David Coverdale, Chris Rea, Brian Ferry (Springwell, Gateshead), Andy Taylor of Duran Duran - Whitley Bay. Used to see Last Exit for 20p every Sunday Lunchtime at the Uni bar on Haymarket, not a fan of Sting but Last Exit were a very good jazz rock combo and the drummer had the drum shop on Dene Street and the organist still plays a mean Hammond through a Leslie speaker. They used to do a number which Sting turned into Bring on the Night when the Police were formed - in fact I recall many of LE's numbers morphed into Police songs (though LE were purely instrumental)

...Don Airey (Mackem)

I wonder if Eric has softened in his dislike for old bandmate Alan Price.
