In theory, Spotify Song Radio should be great - I hear a song and think "give me more like that!" - but in practice it seems to be ropey at best.

From a starting point of Thunderstruck by AC/DC for example, Since You Been Gone by Rainbow or Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash both make sense...

I can more or less see Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics and Zombie by The Cranberries...

But Died In Your Arms by Cutting Crew??? Billy Joel's Uptown Girl??? Learning To Fly by Tom Petty???

I've also noticed that if you select Song Radio for a cover, it'll typically create a playlist full of covers, but will hardly ever include them when the song selected isn't a cover.

Is there anywhere else to generate better playlists for Spotify?

Any suggestions out there?

I tried the new Spotify AI playlist generator. Not surprised it's still in beta, since it's shockingly poor!

My first attempt was to name a few songs from different genres that are all sung by really powerful female vocalists and ask it to compile a playlist of similar female vocalists.

I'd hoped to get just that rather than, say, just a Soul playlist because I'd selected Aretha Franklin or all pop due to Lady Gaga.

Its first attempt gave me mostly male vocalists, so I specifically said I wanted just female vocalists and it then came back with just the songs I'd given it in the first place! rolleyes

Just before anyone complains, btw (although this isn't in NP&E) no, I've not got a woke agenda against male singers, this was purely to try and test out the AI capabilities, which failed quite comprehensively! hehe

I used to click the Daily Mix option and choose 1 of the few shown, but they have disappeared from main screen now so I have to search for them, and they are all the same everyday.
So like you, it's hard to discover new music on there.

I tend to use artist radio rather than song radio.

Using your example you could search "heavy metal playlist" and you will get loads of options.
(Forgive me if the examples you have aren't called heavy metal)
