As above really… Two instances of damage, same car, opposite sides.

If we went through insurance and claimed both at the same time, would the damage be counted as two claims?

Did the damage occur in the same collision?

Spot on. thumbup

One collision, one excess.

Two collisions, two excesses.

This.

Same collision, one claim.

Two separate collisions, two separate claims. Quite straightforward.

Was the damage one one side already there when you had the accident that caused the damage to the second side?

Thanks for the responses.

Two totally different events and I would be honest with the insurer.

For those of you that have responded, have you been in the same situation or are you giving your own philosophical/moral view?*

Keen to get views from people that have been there/done it, even insurance industry side.

  • Appreciate at least one of you will probably take that offensively… it isn’t meant to be.

Hi

it is a fact that the insurance company will view each incident independently. Even if you were not upfront about it the engineer would likely pick up on the damage being 2 separate incidents and 2 individual excess payments would be due if both were to be repaired.

Yes, that's how it works. Used to see it industry side.

It was common for people to think they could save up their accident damage and get it all fixed at once under one excess before returning the lease car.

Doesn't work like that. Insurers are wise to it.

You could get away with it if the damage is reasonable for the story you give them.

That idea could backfire unpleasantly.

The most I’d do is have a word with the bodyshop and get a quote for the other side’s damage and pay for that privately.

I've never been in that situation, but I did spend over 30 years handling insurance claims and we tended to pick up on these things.

Usually end of lease creativity!

It's 2 claims unfortunately. Be honest with the insurer and they may just accept one xs payment. But lie to them and they'll see straight through it and throw it out. Do you need to claim for both? One can't be that bad if you carried on driving before donking the car again.
