An E92, ie the Coupe, is over £105,000 where I live, so thats NOT expensive by my standards.

Plus we dont get paid nicely in £ Sterling

Edit: My mistake, it doesnt cost £105,000 here, its just under £113,000 OTR from the main dealer

What some would call a scalper. Obviously just trying to cash in on the newness of the car....I believe it won't sell for that money.

Looking for expensive places to buy a car....try Singapore, Japan or Norway!

Not particularly. Yes, there are countries that are cheaper but the UK is generally an expensive place to live, especially bearing in mind average earnings. That said, car purchasing itself is not as punitive as certain jurisdictions....

But average earnings in the UK are generally much higher, giving you a much higher disposable income in comparison (to here at least and most surrounding countries anyway).

As a rough guide, an IT graduate can expect to start on around £3-4k PA here. Solicitors/lawyers with around 5-6 years experience could only expect to earn around £9,000 PA.

I know things in the UK like fuel are much more expensive but I still think it works out cheaper in the UK because of your higher average earnings

Eg, a waiter here would be on around RM3.00 an hour (£0.48) , 1 litre of fuel costs RM2.70/litre (0.42), so after 1 hour of work you can purchase 1 litre of fuel (before tax)

In the UK, a waiter is on over £5 average an hour, so after 1 hours work you can get at least 5 litres of fuel for an hours work (before tax). This is based on fuel being around £1.05 a litre when I was last in the UK last year

After leaving the UK to work abroad in the Far East, I now feel the UK is actually a much cheaper place to live. If I was being paid expat wages, ie earning £ out here, then it would be a whole different story.

Add the sky high car prices here to the low wages (Try get a2005 E60 M5 for £100k on your £9k wage as a lawyer), and buying a nice car becomes much difficult than in the UK.

Just my humble opinion smile

Cheers
JKay

Grass is always greener! It's not just fuel that's expensive in the UK, everything is. My family's originally from Mauritius and there's a misconception that the streets here are paved with gold: they're not. The good thing is that if you're prepared to work, you can have a good lifestyle (in some cases even if you're not but are prepared to cheat your compatriots)

Again, just my humble opinion smile

J, fair points but you're using just the two factors to compare. Is food / housing / taxation etc. as severe? What about debt.? That said, I absolutely understand that there are luxuries available here that are not within reach elsewhere for a comparable occupation. But I'm still surprised by how expensive living here can be, at least in terms of value for money. I think property is one of the main factors, as it has quadrupled in cost over the last 15-20 years whilst real pay has barely doubled. Buying a house is pretty much out of the question for me, despite being nearly 30 and partnered. Anyway, I'm no economist but material wealth is entirely relative (e.g. if you lived in certain parts of the country, your money would go much further - mainly because rent would be cheaper - thus allowing me to feel more wealthy). Back on topic, no road going 3 series is worth the thick end of seventy clicks!

What is the book price? £69,995 has got to be over priced and if the price of a 4 year old e46 is around £20,000 that's £10,000 a year depreciation. like you say no 3 series is worth that much!

Well I guess everywhere has its good and bad points. Know just what u mean on the housing front. I used to be a Police Officer earning about 25k a year in the North West, and that wasnt going to get me far(if anywhere) on the house front.

To answer your question about housing here, I am not sure of the overall markte for housing, but as a rough guide, the luxury apartments across the road from me are going for around £120,000, but then again, there are avsolute dives for £12,000, which is unheard of in the UK

Back on topic, by UK standards, that is an expensive 3'er, allbeit an M car. Wonder where prices for the E93 will be 12 months from now

Yes its all about quality of life, and TBH, I feel 10 times happier now I am not in the UK and I hope it stays this way. Things are a lot more simple here(which for me is good), and I too had had enough of the UK when I left.

I know its Dubai ur looking at but if ur ever thinking of the Far East let me know if I can help in any way.

8k M3? Lol

Glad to see your happy fella that's what its all about, the only reason i'm looking at dubai is because my bro is a pilot for U.A.E airlines and lives out there so having family out there when moving to a different country has to be a bonus, but to be honest i would consider anywhere if the job & money was right, anything to get out of the u.k and wales coz unless you live in the cities in wales pay is allot less than in england, even then its still not as good, for a while i used to work in bristol as i could earn another 30% on top of what i could in wales doing exsaclty the same job. what is the construction industry like over there plenty going on? that's the good thing about dubai there is 10 / 15 years of constuction going on so plenty of jobs and they are desperate for good people to work over there.

very very sorry for the thread hijack got carried away ooopppsss!

back to the original subject that 8k E46 M3 Vert can't be right can it? 18k maybe! but if there isn't nothing wrong with that motor or add. god help if & when i come to sell mine

Tempted to give seller a ring and just ask if the add is correct?????

Anyway, back to the subject...it's not like you can't just order one yourself from BMW and receive it in 3-6 months. So why pay a premium? It's not like there's a 2 year waiting list.
