Just sat down in front of the news to hear that the tube drivers have the potential to get up to £850 bonus for working the Olympic period. What bloody drug are these fking lazy cocksockets taking to think that they can demand these bonuses for working for the few weeks they would be working anyway?

What a clusterfk! (love that word)

They'll just strike if they don't get the bonus. Surprised it's not more tbh.

A) my understanding is that it usually it forms part of their contract - I imagine Olympic bonuses don't feature in tube drivers contracts

B) they are private organisations as opposed to public services (I'm aware that some are part owned by the state, but this is irrelevant as they still operate as a private organisation)

If they have a contract but transport for london want them to be flexible and work more hours/weekends over the olympics, then surely it's up to them if they want to pay there drivers a bonus?

Yup. Every banker is receiving a £2,239,000 bonus for not going on strike during the olympics.

My understanding is that this is over and above the overtime they receive anyway...

I know someone who works on the railways as an engineer in Yorkshire. His section have been told no holidays during Olympics. Bearing in mind school holiday season seems harsh and worth a bit of cash.

Of course it is , say my drivers each worked every 3rd weekend on overtime, with something as big as the olympics i'd want them every available for work every other weekend if not every weekend for the duration of the games, now obviously there going to need paying for being that flexible.

Bear in mind that £850 is only about a day's pay for a tube driver nowadays.

This is fine so long as they agree to take pay cuts during quiet periods such as holidays, weekends, during the day and so on.

Why not just pay normal overtime rates? That's what shop workers, street cleaners and so on will be getting. It's not a fking bonus - more a retainer. These tube drivers don't realise just how lucky they are.

You could do that, but what happens if they decide they don't want the extra overtime?
Your then stuck with people wanting transporting to the olympics but not enough trains, hence why there giving them the bonus to make sure that doesn't happen.
