High-profile personal finance commentator and campaigner Martin Lewis has sold his MoneySavingExpert.com website for up to £87m.

It is being bought by MoneySupermarket.com which runs an online price comparison service.

Martin Lewis will remain as editor-in-chief of MoneySavingExpert, which will retain its editorial independence via an agreed editorial code.
Good for him, always comes across as completely genuine and fighting the corner of the little people. A real hard worker too.

He'll be giving £10m to charity smile

That's a lot of cash for a site that I've read a few articles on now and again, and otherwise never spent any money there. Is it worth it??

The articles are where the money is. He earns from referrals and/or sales.

Their weekly email newsletter also goes out to a huge number of subscribers (again they make money from offers/links/etc. listed in there).

Wow, well done to him.

A lot of idiots on that site (as there are here!) but found it very useful and informative.

In fact i'm exchanging on a mortgage today that would probably have never come about as it was though MSE forums that I found the right broker.

I'd imagine it's very profitable with the various affiliate fees he earns as well as a huge email list that would be very valuable.

Good on him, I'd love one of my websites to be that successful!

Is it just me, but he winds me up terribly. Always shouting and banging on about stuff.

He's like an educated version of that clown that does the window adverts.

Fair play to him though, tidy sum of money.

The "stuff" he bangs on about can be extremely useful and helpful to ordinary people.

If more people adopted his approach to home economics, maybe we wouldn't have ended up in the mess we are in today.

Not for one minute doubting the value of the content, just the delivery method. It's like ordering your favourite pizza and the delivery boy lobbing it onto your front lawn from the back of his moped instead of knocking your door.

He has a "style" which can be a bit grating - but substance over form in this case.

£87M and married to Lara Lewington, no wonder he always looks smug.

Not sure what I’m most surprised about: the £87m or him being married to a woman. Well done, anyway.

He doesn;t get that much money i ncash - but he does get a sizeable chunk - 10's of millions.

The general feelign on the MSE forum is now whetehr the site can be trusted, regardless of their editorial code.

The email list will now prob have links moee geared towards making moneysupermarket money - not what is best for consumers.

I believe it makes some £11m a year. Is that right?
If so, he's not been paid enough I reckon.

It probably is a concern because he did do a good job at being impartial, moneysupermarket.com may struggle to do that!

So Debbie McGee Lara Lewington, what attracted you to multi-millionaire Paul Daniels Martin Lewis? hehe

Apart from the often over looked fact that he was telling everyone to put there money into icelandic banks.... way after it was seen that they were failing. yes, councils, put your money here, earn more interest - in unprotected accounts.... dont worry its not even your money, what could go wrong.

Nice bloke though, good on him for making a fortune when the world lost the plot on finances.
