Hello

Thought I would post a few pic's of my kitchen I have just about finished, we had to install it a bit ahead of schedule after the old (came with the house) oven caught fire a month before our baby was dueeek Came home to find a house full of fire men and a very distraught Mrs Paulbavfrown
Panic stations were manned and within a month we had this, I did most of the work by myself or with help from my dad but did not attempt the tiling and plastering which I paid the professionals to do.

I am really pleased with the results, I hope you like...

The offending oven

And where the fire men left it

I may look as if I'm smiling but I can assure you I am uttering the word Cock an awful lot!

Needless to say Smoke heads now fitted, in fact a whole alarm system fitted the day after the fire, made me realise what a lazy sod I can be especially as fitting them is what I do for a livingrolleyes

And finally new kitchen.

Looks excellent. You were certainly lucky with that oven. Can never have too many smoke/.heat detectors wink

I like that a lot. Well done.

Where did you get the kitchen from?

I'm about to embark on a similar project myself but not sure about doing it without the help of a joiner, although I'd happily give the tiling a go.

Did you struggle doing it yourself? How about cutting the worktop (assuming it's not granite)?

Nice job on the new kitchen, you do realise that smoke detector will go off every time you burn the toast!

Out of interest why did the cooker catch fire? looks like an electrical fault, looking at the pic. Cookers aren't meant to burn!

Thanks, the kitchen came from Howdens , I know some people don't like the Howdens range but personally I was very impressed with it, all pre built units, soft close, easy to fit and very good value for money.

You caught me out there the work tops and top plinths my Dad's mate did for me (allthough still two top bits to do) because my ropey old chop saw was not upto the job, and I the work cutting scares me!

Glad you like it

New kitchen looks lovely!

I'm pleased no-one was hurt in the fire, and I think it may have done you a favour longer term?...

I really like that... daft question do you install the units onto the bare floor then tile up to the supporting legs, then put the plinth over the top of the edge of the tiles!?

What sort of money did it all come in at? Did Howdens do the design for you also?

I actually have my eye on a Howdens kitchen.
You just may have given me the confidence to put it together myself! Altough someone else can do the worktops and (tile) flooring.

Thanks.

Don't worry they are fixed heat not smoke! It was the oven that caught fire internally, the bit between the two ovens, it had only been on 5 minutes when it started. It's amazing how quick it all goes up!

I said exactly the same to Mrs Paulbav when she had finaly calmed down hehe
As for it dating it does not really worry me, we will be staying here for the next 10 years at least and if I want I can always change the doors etc as it not expensive to do so.

Fecking expensive tiles so just gone up to the legs and hide with the plinth. All in the kitchen came in at less than 4k. The cost included the dish washer, oven, extractor, fridge, induction hob and work tops etc, and yes howdens did design it.

Thanks, actuall visible damage was limited to the kitchen, hall
and utillity but the smoke damage (as in smell) was bloody awful! We had to live with my parents for 4 weeks and have every item of soft furnishing and clothing dry cleaned, as well as the whole house proffesionaly cleaned and fumeigated (sp). Thank God for insurance!
