F.A define the future of English football
Discussion
o Establishing a new League Three in 2016-17, made up of 10 Premier League B teams and 10 from the Conference.
The B team squads would require 20 out of 25 players to qualify for the home-grown rule and no non-EU players would be allowed. Nineteen players would have to be under 21.
o A phased reduction in the number of non-home-grown players in Premier League squads from 17 to 12, reaching their target by 2021.
o A cap of two non-EU players per squad , plus a ban on non-EU players outside of the Premier League.
Thoughts ?

bds, utter bds, we have the best league pyramid in the world with 100+ professional clubs, we don't them to be infiltrated by 'artifical' B teams a la the much smaller Bundesliga.
I feel sorry for fans of Conference/L2 teams and lower who will spend week in week out playing a bunch of reserves with no fans to bring a few quid to their coffers.
I think the only people in favour of these changes will be the suits who make loads of money from the EPL and fans of EPL clubs who don't give a st about the lower divisions.

They fked it with the 90 minute distance restriction on academy players. That was abolished a few years back but we will be feeling the effects in player production for a few years yet. The FAs own decisions resulted in premier league clubs scouring the globe for youngsters as opposed the country....
The only way to improve the national game in the long term is to have an on-field quota in matches for English nationals in Premiership teams. 6 on the field at all times should do it.
I doubt very much that anything even vaguely like it will happen though, simply because the PL would stand to lose too much money & the international game has little prestige in England these days.

I'm not against B teams playing in the league with some specific rules, but giving them a massive head start and not making them start at the bottom like Wimbledon and others had to is just wrong, well very wrong as every other team has had to start at the bottom up until this point.
Something needs to be done, numbers of home grown players at top level has fallen dramatically since the Prem started,
I would like to see more academy players given a chance and more players from the local area given a chance, maybe clubs should be forced to play 6 players who came through the academy.
That would force clubs to spend money/time on local schools, clubs, academy's and get better training in for local kids,
It will mean less success in Europe for a few years but it's a price worth paying IMHO
These days the top clubs are owned by foreigners (who really have no interest in football), who want instant success and as a result managers and young players aren't given a chance,
We as fans are no better demanding instant success.

I don't believe that. It's the arm chair supporters that demand instant success. Anyone that does more that just watch the sport on tv knows you won't get instant success. And why the emphasis on the drop of British players in our league? 20 years ago we didn't even qualify. Having more quality foreign players in our game means our international players don't have to move abroad to play at a competitive level.
All this change is apparently born out of the belief that foreign players are detrimental to the national squad, hence our failure at world cups.
Maybe we need to get back to the 70s, when there were hardly any foreign players. Look how the England team dominated world football during that decade.

Nail on head. Lack of talent comes down to one thing, coaching. Plain and simple. Stop telling our kids to play the long ball and look at the likes of how Spain teach. and we'll reap the awards with better technical players. Watching a friends son at the weekend play for his local team, 10 years old and he's playing on half the pitch. 10mins and everyone was fked so the long ball game was adopted.

Aren't the plans going to come up against EU employment law?
^^^THIS.All this talk of a cap on EU players is total crap. You may as well be talking about a cap on black or gay players, you just can't do it.

In the 70s 80s British clubs did rather well in Europe with mainly British players,And why the emphasis on the drop of British players in our league? 20 years ago we didn't even qualify. 1990 World Cup semi finals, it's been downhill since then
Up to when English teams got banned in Europe in the mid 80s English clubs had dominated european cup since the mid 70s
European cup winners
77 liverpool
78 liverpool
79 forest
80 forest
81 liverpool
82 villa
84 liverpool
85 English teams banned.

But is that because we had so many more professional teams than any other country? The national team was still st back then, no?
86 and 90 teams were rather good, it's been downhill after 90, back then 70% of top flight clubs had British players, now it's around 30%Today's English team is probably the poorest in a while,

Is it really? We qualified unbeaten conceding the fewest goals in Europe wasn't it? No we don't have the individual talent, but the squad strength is right up there.
Unfortunately, I think we're destined to fail in Brazil but that is because we are grouped with 2 South American teams in a South American tournament.

Lol, Look at the teams in the group, not exactly footballing power houses.Unfortunately, I think we're destined to fail in Brazil but that is because we are grouped with 2 South American teams in a South American tournament.
The real test will come in the summer,
