Hello all,

Just venting my annoyance a little after an incident earlier this evening.

Making my way back from Sainsburys having bought some nice things for dinner, driving through my town i noticed a couple of kids on mopeds dicking about behind me (beeping at pedestrians, weaving about). Further along the same road, the car in front of me pulled up at the side of the road so I stopped and sat behind waiting for a gap to go around it. As a (lengthy) gap appeared I pulled out, but at the same time the plank on the moped behind me decided he wanted to overtake both me and the parked car! I have to say he must've been about a gnats cock away from hitting me but I guess he changed his mind early enough to avoid any contact.

A little further along said road I turned right approaching my house, both moped riding Einsteins decide to give chase. I continued along at a normal pace (25ish, built up area), and presumably the one that nearly hit me pulls alongside my car shouting all kinds of profanities and then proceeds to punch the back of the car! At this point, with the OH in the car, I decided I just had to get away from these morons so I sped up a little and rather than head home (to show them where the car lives), decided to head for the main road (NSL) where I could lose them easily. Stupidly I forgot about the traffic light controlled junction on this NSL road and typically the lights were red! They both pulled alongside and proceeded to dismount their bikes, and one of them then tried my drivers door. The car locks itself when you start moving as most modern cars do, so he couldn't gain access, and in his rage he punched the wing mirror. Conveniently the lights went green so i hoofed it off, again with them chasing behind me, but was able to outrun them (all within the speed limit honestly guv!).

Sorry for the long story, but I just can't get over these kids behaviour. In a way I feel like a right wimp for running away but faced with two lads in full bike gear in a full blown rage, my OH in the car, and my 5 day old (company) car at risk of damage I didn't think hanging around was the best idea.

Question is now, should I call the police? Frustratingly I didn't get a reg number of either bike so I'm not sure there's any point. However I must admit I'm a little concerned they'll notice my car if they were to ride past and vandalise it somehow.

I just hate these little cock-ends riding around with L plates on, nearly getting themselves killed and thinking it's OK to chase people around trying to vandalise their car. Nobody should be allowed to be in control of a vehicle without proper tests, this is a clear instance of where the CBT just isn't good enough and allows kids like these with this pathetic attitude to ride around doing things like this and putting themselves in danger.

Anyway rant over, thanks for listening.

Mike.

Thought that the op was in London until I checked his profile.
In London they can do what they like.
As they cant be chased or stopped in case the little darlings hurt themselves

I nearly did too but that was because the idiot kept pulling in front of me at traffic lights (ie crossing the line on red) then holding me up until I could overtake then doing the same at the next set of lights.

I'm sure he'll be an organ donor soon enough.

I'm ignorant, is the no chase law just for mopeds or all bikes?

Unfortunate incident really. You can't win either way. However, I used to have a moped a 16 and never road raged anyone like that. Just saying

Bit like a UK version of that US range rover vs bikers thread... how tempted were you to "swerve to avoid a pot hole" when they were along side? whistle

Feels crap letting them get away with it, doesn't it?

Right choice though. Could all go very very bad otherwise.

Fingers crossed the daft little s will try it on with a proper nutter sooner or later and get a well deserved hiding.

Nasty stuff - Did the right thing not rising to them - wouldn't put it past a kid of their age to stab someone and not think anything of it to be quite honest these days - Should have driven to the police station or got the OH to call 999

This is why you should check your mirrors before making a manoeuvre.

IMHO it's not because they're teenage moped riders, it's because they're knobs. More mature people who have passed their driving tests also succumb to road rage......

I get what you are saying, however even Mercedes' are not fitted with mirrors that show the future yet and if the mopedist moved at the same time there is not a lot you can do. Better advice would be to say stop a bit further back and towards the left so bikes can get through while you are waiting for a big enough space for a car to pass.

Well done on not rising to the bait Mike, did it help that it was a new company car and not one you had paid for?

I do agree - I wouldn't have tolerated some kids hitting my car.

Without a plate I don't think much will come of contacting the police unfortunately. Don't think you need to worry about vandalism assuming your car is the typical company car choice, there will be hundreds of them around in the same colour etc.....

I think it unlikely that (i) you couldn't see him gaining on you as he begins his overtake (ii) if you move at the same time you wouldn't accelerate faster than a moped and (iii) you couldn't warn him of your intention before making the manoeuvre with your indicator. It does rather sound like the OP wasn't paying enough attention to what was going on behind him, he wouldn't be the only one not to check the person behind isn't also thinking about an overtake though and it doesn't excuse their reaction.
