I'm busy trying to find a new car about A4/Mondeo/Insignia sized, Petrol Engined, 4WD and capable of towing my Sprint car, and came across the new S60.

I've had a test drive in a V60 D5 which was very nice but I was trying to find out more about the T6. Unfortunately there's not a single Demo car in the UK (according to Volvo) so was wondering if anyone here had any thoughts (or has one !). On paper it looks perfect ... apart from the price.

Opinions or alternatives very welcome .... (BTW hate the new A4 and Insignia so seem to have run out of 4WD mid sized saloons.

Thanks ... Andy

I have heard (from motoring journo friends) that it is a good engine. Swift, but a little thirsty.

Nice looking car IMO

Do Subaru or Mitsubishi do anything to suit?

Can it be an estate?

If so, Skoda Octavia 4x4 Scout might be worth a look?

Ta ... i'll have a look but it doesn't seem to come in a reasonable size petrol version ....

I was lucky enough to drive one on the Volvo Naughty Track Day. It felt very nice to chuck about with the engine feeling smooth and powerful. Power delivery was gradual...It didn't lunge off the line but it had some grunt.

Interior was very nice and you could get three large-ish blokes in the back OK with decent leg-room....I'm 6ft and it was fine.

For the short time I was in it the car was refined when cruising and the styling was attractive both inside and out.

I have no idea how well it would work as a tow car but I think that it would be a great motorway car. If Garlick's sources are right then the only downside I can see is the thirst...I like it in almost all other aspects...I would buy one.

Be interesting to see how the 2nd hand prices hold-up Vs. BMW/Audi etc..As you may loose a bit if you bought it new.

Not really ... legacy models are poor now adays compared with some of the performance models they used to do. Impreza (and i've had a few) can't tow unless you get the rubbish spec ones.

Mitsubishi only have the lancer as the Evo can't tow. I'm not sure if they are that nice but was planing to go have a look at one.

Yes....

But, Saab-GB have done a special run-out edition of the 9-3 Turbo X with the 2.8V6 engine, called the Carlsson. Comes fullyloaded with leccy heated seats, Sat Nav, top range audio, blah, blah etc.,etc., and Saab/Haldex awd system with rear E-LSD......and there's a few left new in dealers for £25-26k.

Hmm, according to Saab.co.uk the cheapest 95 is the 2.0T 220ps manual at 31855GBP - thats before options. The V6 aero starts at 38.5 - obviously I have no idea what sort of discounts can be had??

A 1.8 TSI Ocatvia Scout should be alright - dont the VAG TSi engines chip very easily up to daft amounts too?
Discounts on SAAB? Epic, weapons grade, Citroen-esque ones

My local dealer has one .... 25.5 it a whole load of car BUT the interior is dated ... the 95 is huge (A6 sized) but very nice inside .... if only the 93 had the 95 interior i might be very tempted.

It's only quoted at 165ps ... if it was the TFSI 2.0 DSG, i might be interested ... but even then it's still a Skoda ;-)

I drove an auto T6 at an S60 naughty track day as well.

It was surprisingly agile for a car of that size, and looked good outside and inside.

We got taken round a 'track' by a pro-driver in a D5 version though, and it was almost as fast and would be a lot more economical, would depreciate less etc. Is there a reason why you didn't like the D5?

It seems like an AWD version of the D5 S60 and V60 exist, though I'm not sure they're on sale in the UK at the moment...

The perfect car for me would be the T5 in AWD spec .... but Only the T6 is AWD.... even though the Volvo S60 brochure talks about a D5 AWD it dosen't exist here.

Is a Volvo S60?
I test drove the D5 version and was very impressed with build quality and equipment, ride was slightly softer than the SLine version of mine but good all the same. It was certainly more comfortable than the A3, fab seats and more interior room.

i would but for two things ... 1 - they don't do the V6 any more the best option is the 200PS TFSI and 2 - i'd like something slightly bigger.

if you could tow with the S3 i'd probably buy one ...
