what other make compares to a 911 gt2?
Discussion
Well performance wise a Scuderia or SL Gallardo is a match, handling also and frankly they knock the noise a GT2 makes into a cocked hat, even with an aftermarket system on. Turbos get in the way and there's little induction roar. A Scud or Gallardo is louder and more thrilling by a fair way.
Yes they're more expensive by a large amount and costs maybe double the Porsche.
Aston V12 Vantage is not a million miles away either and has also got a soundtrack to die for.
A GTR is a match performance wise but not as raw and scary. It is cheaper still and costs are hugely exagerated on Porsche forums. No more expensive to run in reality

Not sure about Scuderia, but I'm sorry, an SL Gallardo is no match for a GT2. First hand experience talking here.
In performance terms or scaring the st out of you terms??In presence, noise and rarity its ahead surely.
A Scuderia is a 3.4s to 60, 8 sec to a 100 car. Thats every bit as fast as a GT2. The above points remain true.
The cost of these cars is way in excess of the GT2 though so its not a fair comparison, The cost of running them is prohibitive too.
If these figures from Wiki are correct?
Top speed: 319 km/h (198 mph)
0-60 mph: 3.7 s
0-100 mph: 8.3 s
1/4 mile: 11.9s @ 193.2 km/h (120 mph)
Then a 4.5 Cerbera will do it
Very Raw, similar performance figures
0-60 mph: 3.8 s
0-100 mph: 8.1 s
Oh & very loud

Really?Here's a quick example.
http://youtu.be/IdPY1Ka0kWk
The SL is lighter and more powerful than the 560, so even quicker. The Scud is at least as quick as a GT2, and the SL the quickest of all 3 in standard form.
That's also first hand experience.

wow that 911 is quick. My post was with regards to the 997 though. Wasnt that the 997?
997 GT2 is 329 KPH, 0-100 in 3.7s, 0-160 in 7.4s and 0-200 in 11.2s --- officially.The new 996 GT2 was 315, 4.1, and 8.5s --- the old 996 GT2 was probably slower, but I don't have those figures.

Don't know if this is an accurate indicator or not but a friend had a Superlegover Lambo and when I had my previous 997 GT2 (completely std), I blew the SL out of my slipstream. Within less than a mile, I'd pulled 100-200m gap.
He can't have been much good at peddling in a straight line! Even a 560 is quicker!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o836E_B_dHw
Having had a modded 996 GT2 (578 bhp) after 12,000 miles in a GTR (std) I can say that the GTR is quicker from A to B (and you are 100% confident that you will arrive at B alive!) but in a straight line the GT2 murders the GTR.
I now run a 702bhp V10 RS6 Avant which is quicker than both BUT not comparable as this is a rocket powered van!
My latest weekender is however comparable:
2008 Audi R8 V8 manual with APR stage 3 supercharger system making over 600bhp.
She makes a noise to wake the dead (exhaust valves open and mad max charger wine),
Revs to 8,250 rpm,
Ballistic from A to B,
Has straight line pace to stay with most things (except my RS6 by a whisker!),
Beautifully balanced in the twisties and very steerable on the throttle,
Feels very special (open gate gear selector).
To basically sum it up - you need a (very well) modified car to compete with a 996 GT2 as it is such a "live" proposition even in standard form.
My 2p worth!
