Many thanks - my car is only 6 months old - should it need any motor oil? I will check the level before I add any but just wanted to know what would be the "norm".

Thanks

The digital gauge doesnt read until the engine is hot..so on start up?

eh?

On my car, when I twist the key to 'on' (so electrics on, not starting the engine) I get a countdown of 5 secs - which then shows an oil level.

it dissapears once the engine is running and is replaced by the clock...

I use mobil 1 0w40.

Cost about £12 a litre from the OPC or 4 litres from costco comes in at £20 + vat.

0W40 over here in Germany.
It's mostly a question of the temperature-range You have in Your surroundings.

re: Oil-gauge, mine needs a warm motor, too. Otherwise it tells me to get the motor to temperature before measuring. But then, it's only a 2004 Turbo, so who am I to speak...

Cheers,
Frank

Viscosity at low and high temperatures....i had a 900ss Ducati that used Castrol straight 50...it took 2 hours to fill the crankcase.

Thanks - I know very little about engines etc etc

I was going to check the engine oil level and then use Mobil 1 0W-40 to top up. Anything I should watch out for? Thanks
