Did anybody else think the festival at gaydon was pants?

well i cruised down early this morning took my pride and joy with me, sadly the weather was particuarly crap in true british style, i had a good look around the cars and i can honestly say the highlights were few and far between, the e30s were lovely but their was so many chaved up sheds with big stereos blasting it really put me off to be honest, it really wasnt what i was expecting, it was lovely to see the immac early m3s and the standard m5s, m3s, and their was a lovely CSL which made me really stop and stare, the museum was brill but the reason i went was for the BMW festival which was for me at least a huge let down, i think it could have been alot better.
i came away very dissapointed and like i say it really wasnt what i was expecting!!!i really was expecting better, some of the better cars were sadly hidden away in the public car park. but their was one particular m3 csl that was absolutly gorgeous!!! really sad to see only a handful of z4ms. the atmosphere was more max power than enthusiast to me, revving the nuts off cars, blaring dance music, then this lad came in with a white compact 1.6i with lambo doors i just had to laugh. im sure the true bmw enthusisasts were shocked at some of the sites.

as the alpinas and standard m cars. But have to agree with you on the chavvy cars there were alot of
there. Also they wasnt as many cars as i thought there would be. we turned up early in the m5 and they wouldnt
let us take our car to the paddock because there was no space. Even though there was loads but nevermind it serves
us right for not joining but we have now!!!!!!!! Another bad thing was that you couldnt watch the cars go round the
track. But overall it was good and very enjoyable.

I think the event needs better organisation. Put the modified cars in one area and then park specific models next to each other according to their ticket sales....so the organisers know what you are driving.
It would also be good if owners put some info about their cars in the windows....as in the amazing 20 Jahre E34 M5 so that ans could understand what is waht and who has modified or had their cars featured in magazines.
The silver E 30 M3 Sport Evo at the entrance was lovely, no Z8's, some lovely Alpinas as always but not enough older cars and not enough order.
BMW you need to do more and possibly move it to Silverstone for the Classic event, as Porsche and Ferrari do with hundreds of cars all lined up, specific displays and a proper concourse not the rubbish 'Show and Shine' for some very dodgy looking pimp cars.

Again Sorry I dont agree The Concours event was at Waddesdon Manor a few weeks earlier , and the show and shine was to open it up to a wider audience. A point your own comment proves its opened to a type of car I dont particularly like "the pimp car". But those guys have every right to be there and take part. I do agree that the placing of cars could be better. But when you pulled up did you know for certain that the car next to you did not have a boot full of HiFi equipment? Again some of the owners want to show within Regions , some by Register .

I enjoyed looking at the proper BMW's owned by enthusiasts, but I too was very disappointed at the modified element - it was far too max power and there were plenty of "classics" ruinned by decked suspension and ridiculous wheels.
I know it is each to their own but I thought the event was for celebrating the marque and displaying rare/mint/cherished cars.
It was too mixed up and incoherent, and wandering around admiring some peachy cars with boom boxes going off in the adjacent vehicles was a real let-down.
Still, there was some superb metal on display, I was stunned by the immaculate spread of E30 M3's, the Jahre M5 and the classics like the B7 Turbo.
I don't think I will go again though

I'm not surprised to hear this kind of comment, I 1st attended 6 years ago & really enjoyed it [my 1st big car show]went again the following year and was underwealmed,not as many traders the usual cars,ie not very exciting,I haven't been back since so I think the BMWCC need to take a long look at this & sort it out before more genuine car lovers see it for what it is
glad im not the only one that thinks the same, i thought for a min i was loosing it!! When i think back to an MG day i went to at silverstone it was amazing, thats the only word, ferrari days equally awesome, and yes their was modded cars but in the own section and because of that they were intresting in the own right, but the sheds i saw on sunday was a complete shame, some proper nice cars ruined, one goreous e30 m3 i saw had a stereo system that was as heavy as all four wheels im sure.
BMW should do what many of the clubs did at the Silverstone Classic a couple of weeks ago. A really impressive showing by Ferrari and Porsche, loads of dealer support, hospitality, some wonderful cars and owners who really care about originality, motorsport and modifications.
Make the stands special, spend some time and money organising what goes where and give the owners something to appreciate...not just suck them to buy things!
Its not hard and the value to attract new possible customers is beyond measurement with 50,000 people walking by.

I thought it was a huge disapointment too with the exception of the track experience and the museum. Without those two it would have been a very sorry affair. I guess BMWCC made a lot of money from the entrance fees and the tat they were selling so at least they were happy. As for the trade stands what rubbish, literally in the case of the strip it flog it brigade. A few magazines had poor stands and one had to resort to a tart of a model (bending over to show her knickers to sad middle aged punters) to drum up interest in the mag - what does that say about your mag and its readers(?) fella's?! Same goes for the Thorney stand. I was up for a discussion about the merits of chipping my car but was put off by the cheap tarts! I'm no prude but Thorney grow up and get with 2008 not 1978 I'm after a professional outfit to trust my expensive car to.
