A trip to Fiskado for lunch is well worth it, also there is an underground lake which you can visit which a Greek man will row you across in his boat if he is not protesting in Athens!

I like this island a lot, although it was 17 years ago since I was there.

Argostoli (sp) is nice, the underground lake is definately worth seeing, as is the Drogarati Cave.

The best part was the BBQ boat trip to one of the smaller islands. We had volleyball in the water, and kebabs on the beach. Great day!

The underground lake is called the 'Messalini Lake'. It is amazing, and well worth a visit.

Just up the road from you is Aghia Efimia. This a lovely village, and is on the way to Fiskardo, which is probably the nicest village on the island. Continue around the coast line and you will find Myrtos, which is a popular beach and is well worth a visit. You will also notice the views of Myrtos from the top of the cliff before you get there- this is amazing. Before you get to Myrtos you will find Assos, which is another very nice village.

I stayed in Lassi, just south of Argostoli. We absolutely loved it- it is a very special place.

You will find everywhere in Kefalonia is stunning. We have stayed in Aghia Efimia 4 times now & we love the place. Keep your eyes open for the mountain goats whilst driving & also their gold teeth. (seriously). Give "Makis" pool bar a try in Aghia Efimia, the food is good & the pool bar views are amazing.

We are looking at trying a different greek island this year although I really want to go back to Kefalonia.

We went to Santorini before we went to Kefalonia, and this might be worth visiting. We did really prefer Kefalonia though, but Santorini is beautiful.

not too bad, more risk of changeable weather - particularly around the ionian islands, but it rarely lasts long if it gets stormy. should still see temperatures in the late 20's

Might avoid September then as I am wanting a "hot" holiday. Probably try getting there in August.

Try Captains Bar(Skala) early evening for a cheeky cocktail, place has a good atmosphere.
Have a drive up to Poros, lovely harbour with some great places to eat while watching boats come and go.

Damn it I wanna go now!!

+1 for this suggestion.

Go to Fiskardo on the North of the island, and catch the Captain Aristidis ferry to Frikes

My barber is going Kefalonia next week.
Said it is beautiful.
My dad also has many of stories from a few years ago when he went to Athens and stopped in Kef an Fiskado.
He rented a boat so I assume this could be possible for you too?

Just got back from there today.

Wonderful island, with very friendly locals, and some stunning scenery.

Will second the caves and underground lake, and myrtos beach is also pretty special.

The taverna at the top of old skala is very nice, and has fantastic views over to Zakynthos (i think thats the one).

All in all you'll love it over there, it was getting pretty hot, easily in the low 30s most days, a local was saying it was likely to get up to 35 this coming week.

Still I'm glad to be back in sunny Swindon now frown
