LR Evoque - now they are on the road, what do you think?
Discussion
Saw one of these on Saturday at Knutsford services, black 2 door looked like a full spec vehicle, probably off to be delivered to a local WAG......
Have to say, it looked smaller in the flesh than I expected and more like a fancy Freelander rather than a mini RR....
Not one for me but I wondered what others thought now the car is actually out on the streets?

i think many Range Rover drivers are not happy that its labelled a 'Range Rover'
its certainly not a 'proper' RR and i'd suspect its using the name of its 'superiors' as a selling point especially abroad?
certainly seems to have worked as i gather the first years production run is already sold out?
and it provided over 1500 new jobs in one of the worst areas for unemployment in the uk - so well done LR in that respect

I like it.
Bit of high riding RR luxury in a smaller package for the city.
Can be taken to countryside events without grounding out (i.e. s-off-t road).
Hardly drive much so perfect car to share with wifey.
Decent fuel economy.
5 door is practical if any kids pop along.
Jobs a goodun.
However, I am a skinflint and will buy one when they are 3 years old and all probs are sorted out.

How's that work then? Part of that luxury in a Range Rover Big is due to all the space.
exactly the space inside a RR is one of its attractionslets face it, its not a Range Rover - if anything the Discovery is more deserving of the RR badge as its chassis is the basis of the RR Sport
the Evoque to me is a tarted up Gaylander - LOL!

Err you have leather and all that cr4p, but with the compromise being a smaller package more suited to town.

the ultimate Urban Gaylander - LOL!!!If you don't want/need a small car, they make the full fat.
Guess its more important for the out of towners who use cars more often or those who spend a big proportion of their money and identify themselves by their car.
Still, it would suit me and I like it. However, I also think the Skoda Yeti is nice and I expect much better value.

Err, not sure how a car makes you gay or that you should be difined by what you drive.

the 'Gaylander' comment is a standing joke - as for the Yeti - what can i say?Guess its more important for the out of towners who use cars more often or those who spend a big proportion of their money and identify themselves by their car.

i'll let you into a secret - if you push the offroad button you will not see elephants on the Kings Road (Chelsea) - PMSL!
to make a comment about 'out of towners' who 'spend a big proportion of their money and identify themselves by their car' shows you know nothing about the people you disparage!
so, yes i'd agree the Evoque would suit you down to the ground
BUT by wearing the RR badge you might just have to pay RR parts/service charges and that will reduce your yogurt intake for a while!

I actually live on the Fulham end of the Kings Road though so there is a bit more greenery.
My comment on out of towners was with reference to using a car more often - I don't disparage anyone. I was merely pointing out if someone (probably a youngster) spends a large proportion of their cash on a car, they might get quite defensive about it. I.e. I dont get how a normal person could get so offended or lable someone by their car.
Whilst I am enjoying my yogurt (assuming I can afford it after the crippling running costs you associate with a 2 litre town car), can I offer you some ketchup to go with the chip on your shoulder?

Luxury isn't just about material spec, it's about that feeling of space and not being wedged in a seat, or inches from the windscreen. By definition a smaller car simply cannot offer that.
Im going against the grain here but i think it looks superb!
All the mags ive read have praised it as well for its on/off road ability.
I would have one in 3 door in white with black interior and tints for the drug dealer look
I do however wish it was called the landrover Lrx like the concept car was. Much better and doesnt dilute the range rover name.
But saying that, yes it is 10% a freelander 2, but the RRS is a disco3 underneigh so does that mean its a poor car as well. Or just a ocean finance fake tanned gym goer's wet dream..
Yes, im well aware it will not go places a defender will go blah blah etc etc. But the majority of 4x4s in the uk never get off roaded in the way some of the 4x4s on here do. Light stuff like crossing fields and dealing with snow is the order of the day for them, if they can do that then it will be ok.

IF YOU WANT RANGE ROVER LUXURY BUY A RANGE ROVER.
You are all getting wound up over a shopping car.
Christ its liking people are insulting your kids!
Guess what - unless it has Bentley, Aston, Ferrari, Lambo, Bugatti etc. on the badge, no one normal really cares anway.

You said Evoque offered the same luxury as a FFRR.
I suggested that's not really possible, as part of that "luxury" element is down to the size and thus interior space of the car.
Then you hit Caps Lock and shouted "IF YOU WANT RANGE ROVER LUXURY BUY A RANGE ROVER", which somewhat undermines your original theory that a smaller car (Evoque) can deliver the same luxury.
And then you have the neck to call me ridiculous.
Weird.
And I'm not getting wound up. It's called a discussion. Try it some time.
