Well that's what it sounds like. Intermittent but has been doing it for some months. It's a rattling noise but peculiar in that it sounds like someone playing with a bag of marbles (no jokes about glass balls please). Also peculiar is that it sounds the same when I pull up at lights or a junction, so it's not related to bumpy or rough road surfaces. Sounds like it's behind the rev counter/speedo area. Any ideas chaps (before I start dismantling it) scratchchin

Cheers, Chilli

Hope I'm not going to alarm anyone unnecessarly but water in the chassis can/could make this noise. If the rust hole is at the top of the tube the water can roll around and make this sound.
I recently have had a noise like water gurgling as I accelerated. This was around the same time as I found a small rust hole at the top of my out riggers under the wheel arch and noticed water dripping from the outrigger the the next day having previously taken it out in heavy rain. After a week in the garage it disappeared to return when driven in the next heavy rain.
Chassis refurb and planning in progress.

I had/have a water issue that sounds like gurgling from under the dash top and could be likened to a bag of marbles. It only occurs when the heater control is part way between hot and cold and at mid to high revs when the water pump is spinning faster.

A look under the bonnet found a small leak (more of a weep) from the top of the rad that had over the space of a year reduced the coolant level to a point where nothing was in the swirl pot or header tank. This has probably given me air in the heater.

Didn't do it last couple of days, and car's now tucked away as back off to earn a crust again. I can however rule out air in the cooling/heater system, and water in the chassis. I'll investigate to see if there's any evidence of the manifolds rubbing on the chassis when I get back. Unfortunately the noise comes and goes of it's own accord. Thanks for all the suggestions so far fella's. BTW Ole, if you read this, I tried the more noise trick last November and was rewarded with a £450 fine and six points for my efforts frown

Right, my 'bag of marbles' has recently become a fully fledged 'something extremely loose' rattle. No screws/bolts/brackets have dropped into the footwell but I'm expecting something to fall into my lap any day now frown

Wotcha fink chaps, any ideas? It's looking now like a dash off job unless I can spot something by lying upside down in the footwell confused

Looks like I'll have to Peter, I tried the upside down in the footwell thing a few minutes ago and it took the assistance of three of my neighbours to get me out biggrin

Maybe it's one or more of the three nuts themselves that are loose rather than something that's behind the dash scratchchin

Nah.

TBH there's not a lot to see there.

If you're passing, I'll whip it off for you.

Chilli,

I don't know if I definitely have the same issue but i get a similar sound in mine, intermittent though. I figured mine out to be the speedo clicking round which it still tries to do at standstill and is VERY noticeable. It took me ages to figure this out so have a look and see if the end number on your mileometer is trying to flick when the noise is there. No idea how to fix mine but as it doesn't seem too life threatening i'm just getting used to it.

Might be totally different to yours but just my 2 pence.
