I havent been caught lol i dont do drugs.

My mate asked me to post this, what would happen if you get caught with £20 worth of cannabis in a bag? arrested? go to jail? the police just tell you off and conviscate? a caution?

Also if you have a caution does that mean you have a criminal record?

Thanks

Thought it was a street caution but they keep a record so if you get caught once or twice more they will prosecute you.

so the caution would not show up on a CRB check when you applied for jobs etc?

if he declared it on his application is it likely to still be able to get any job as it was a one off and he was honest about it? he works in the nhs and he has it once a month maximum

He needs to talk to them... every employer is different so can't say.

He should declare it though as keeping it a secret and then they find out will be an issue.

It's not a matter of declaring it - if he dos a job that involves patient contact he'll likely need to supply a CRB, which will show the caution for five years. For some jobs it would be an enhanced disclosure which lasts forever.

I wonder if that would stop him getting a job in the nhs then, hmmm.

It's possible, can you say what the job is?

Current policy that I know of is that provided it's a small amount with no aggravating features then a cannabis WARNING will be issued for the first offence. Note the word WARNING- It's a local thing which is recorded in Force, not an official Police caution and will not show up on a standard CRB check.

Would it show on an enhanced CRB?

Good question, I'm not sure. I know that, for instance, in Force vetting procedures would pick it up but I don't know on an "official" CRB... I can't think that all of the internal databases of all 52 UK Forces are searched.

I was caught with a small amount a couple of years back. I got a penalty fine and have since had enhanced CRB which it didn't show up on.

Even if it did, it's unlikely a small possession of cannabis conviction would raise eyebrows so long as he was honest about it.

NHS he would almost certainly be sacked immediately, I worked for the NHS for many many years and although its pretty common thing to do, anyone I knew of being caught on a background check before being hired did not get hired, anyone caught by police would be reported to professional body who would then strike you off, caught at work were immediately removed from the premises and told to resign, if they didnt or tried to deny it then it went through OH/disciplinary proceedures and you would be removed form your professional body's register and thus no longer able to practice anywhere in the UK. Instances are always reported to the independant safeguarding authority which may ban you from working with vulnerable adults/children ever again or for 5/10/15 years.

All in all if you are caught and work fo the NHS the repercussions are dire, much worse than any other job I can think of.

Dont get caught smile

Struck off? Really? From looking through the NMC hearing summaries it seems you have to do some pretty serious stuff to get 'struck off' of the professional register. Then again I'm speaking as someone who has never been aware of a colleague being caught with cannabis.

Possession of Cannabis is arrestable. As is any offence now due to SOCPA.

Thought this was a "send em off with a caution".

If you went and arrested everyone who had cannabis, the countries universities would be empty within 24hrs.
