Ah no! Safety Mode!

Just been out for a cruise in my new Monaro, driving along at 30mph in 4th gear and the car throws the check engine warning and puts the car into safe mode.

I'm so bummed out. Limped the car home and parked her up in the drive.

Diagnostic needed...nearly always a sensor and usually emission related...seldom expensive (but can be!)...don't worry, it will be worth it in the end

Fingers crossed. Having just bought the car though I'm more than a bit strapped for cash. Plus she's my daily driver so I don't know how I'm getting to work on Monday.

After doing a bit of research the throttle body keeps coming up as a likely culprit, especially since the car hasnt been driven the last two years.

To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.

Sorry to hear this, give Michael White a shout, he has the diagnostic gear to read the codes...

There is an idependent Vauxhall guy about 4 miles away. He is usually a very decent bloke, so I'm hoping he can read the codes for me.
If its something pretty straight forward he might also be able to fix it.

If its the T/B dont get VX to fix it Go to Monkfish
it will be 1/2 the price

Hopefully something fairly simple like a dodgy lambda sensor or something....

When I say an idependent Vauxhall guy I don't mean a dealer. He is just a car mechanic but only works on Vauxhalls.
He looked after both my Astra and Astra VXR for me.

My plan is: get the codes read then give Monkfish a ring to buy any parts.

It was so strange, very random. No warning signs at all.

if its a throttle body, fit it yourself its a very easy job

Not at all, was driven home on Wednesday night in the middle of a thunderstorm, then again to and from work yesterday. Today was actually the first time I've had her out in the dry!!

Good luck, she is a lovely example, I havent been able to sell the Astra yet.... no interest at all.

Sorry to hear that m8 ma car started some sh#t tonite coz an ht lead came loose but I was convinced it was somethin terrible but thankfully it was an easy fix. ( no money involved)
Hope yours ends up good news too.
