Must admit I find the new SQ5 a tempting proposition. A great mix of grunt, looks, economy and practicality with a typically nicely designed interior.

Anybody driven one, bought one or thinking of taking the plunge? if so fill me in

Its been on my radar for a while now. I went to see my dealer on Friday who have booked me in for a weekend in their 3l tdi Q5 to see if I like the car. Then they will put me in a BiTurbo car to make sure I like the engine (can't love the power band on the 'normal' 3l). If it all stacks up then I'm tempted, although my dealer says they have sold out if their allocation already.

when you say sold their allocation is this a limited model or is your dealer just referring to the initial stock available? I have read comments that the ride is quite harsh in the SQ5 so I will be keen to read your thoughts once you have taken on for a drive. What options are you considering? The Estoril Blue paint looks tops

The salesman (a buddy of mine) said their dealer allocation (only 2) was already sold. I asked if his group was getting a demonstrator in (as in an ideal world I'd buy an ex demo car) and he said that due to limited numbers he wouldn't be surprised if, at best, Audi only provided 1 demonstrator per graphical area ( not sure how that would work!) rather than 1 per dealer/dealer group. It sounds like they wont be making many.

The blue looks excellent. Hadn't thought too much about spec a) as mentioned I'd consider a demo and b) speccing what I want (rather than need) sees it happily over £60k

If they are limited in supply I might have to get in to contact with my dealer sooner than planned. I specced one how I would like and its about 51k, to get to 60k you must be looking at the exclusive interior, 21' wheels etc. I like the look of the 21" wheels but wonder about just how harsh the ride would be and if I could get winter tyres in that size.

Just had another play on the website and got it down to £55k. Still a lot of money considering I can get into a decently specced Disco 4 for £50k

Still considering playing a little SQ5 Russian roulette and see if one come up 6 months old and what spec. Might just wait to see what happens in September. I was planning on buying my S4 anyway and that would give me time to spec a new SQ5 if I couldn't find one for sale 2nd hand.

Not sure if the single turbo with S-tronic and a gentler ride won't be a better proposition on UK roads, especially as there are decent discounts available, wherehas you can't get anything off the SQ. My main concern about a new Audi is iPhone compatibility, I've read that there are problems with rSAP and while I don't use my car as a mobile office there are occasions when it is very useful. Anyone around here throw any light on the subject?

Dont know about iphones but I have this rSAM problem with my SGS3. Only came about when Samsung rolled out its latest Jellybean update which apparently took Bluetooth to version 4 whilst Audi (on my 2010 car at least) is on version 3. Nothing had changed on my car so I'm pretty confident the problem was something caused by Samsung not Audi. Wasn't aware that iphones had the same problem

Yes there are. And it's being looked at but at the moment the problem rests soley with Apple. They simply won't release the codes required to enable full rSAP. To anyone, even their 'technology partner' Audi. The only solution at the moment is an non Apple product if you wish to have full service.

So does this problem afflict other marques as well then? I had heard that it was an Audi problem, but that could have more to do with exaggerated or misleading claims about compatibility.

My SGS3 connects with my mum's Disco 3, similar vintage, similar Bluetooth version. Irked me even more over the issue with Audi, but, as I said, I thought it was a Samsung cockup not an Audi one as the only thing that changed was the Samsung update. I hadn't realised there was the same issue with Apple stuff.

I believe that it is a marque wide problem. More so for Audi as they have Apple as their tech partner. Audi was mugged a bit really. Even now, it can be a real pain getting some iPhones/pods etc to work, only because you must have current software that is needed and it must be constantly updated. It's not backward compatible so needs (the car) to have software updated sometimes, if you use a later version of Apple products. Not to mention messing about with blue/black/red cables. Having said that, when all is working fine, IMHO it's the best set up out there.

I'll try and dig out my notes from my Audi technical event from last year. This issue was covered extensively but my brain was starting to explode. There is some really clever stuff coming out later in the year too!

Yes. All makes. Used to get complaints all the time about it when I was at Renault

Do you work for Audi Carl? I would find it hard to commit to buying an SQ5 without a test drive as it is so far out of the usual mould of cars for me.

The other option of course is the same engine in an A6 Allroad, more money but more toys standard I believe, possibly slightly larger cabin too.
