'W Day' the return ....

Hi Guys

As mentioned in a thread before Christmas I was quite keen to do a small road trip in the Wedge, a trip over to France this year was always on the books!

So a day trip to France to stretch the Wedges, maybe visit the Dunkirk beaches to see and pay our respects, wake up a few locals in the villages along the way, a bit of lunch or picnic, some shopping and back to Blighty before last light! Lots of photo opportunities.

So the outline plan might be:

  • Saturday in May TBc
  • Meet up at the Leeds Castle services on the M20 (early)
  • Ramsgate to Ostende ferry (08.00)
  • Meet and form up the convoy with a short blat out. (Route 1)
  • Visit Dunkirk beaches - photo opportunity etc
  • Drive to a suitable village for lunch / picnic and show off the cars!
  • Spirited drive (Route 2)
  • Find suitable shopping opportunity
  • Convoy back to the ferry port
  • Return to Blighty
  • M20 back to Leeds Castle services
  • Bomb burst home
Job done!

So is there any real interest in a day out in our Wedges?

Cost of the ferry would be in the ball park of £35 to £45 (based on one passenger) plus fuel

So who's up for it any takers please put your name down so i can judge the level of interest

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris

I fancy this if I have recovered from latest opp and 280i project completed and on the road!

Dunkirk is a set of beaches I know a lot about but never been!

Hi All

Well the initial response sounds positive, so I will look into the ferries, costs, driving routes etc and come back in a few days.

Does anyone have a view on the best date in May 2013?

I would like to use this trip as a tester for a 2-3 day one, to do the Normandy beaches in late summer / autumn.

Watch this space and please any further interest in this one then add your name to the list yes

Add me to the interested list, though will depend on the exact date!

Just had a quick look at the ferries, and there appears to be a sailing Ostend on the Saturday mornings, but not one coming back for some reason?

Looking at a potential date of the 11th May it seems that there is no return ferry from Ostend on a Saturday so the next best option would be on the Euro tunnel to Calais £60 return. Its a 60 mile drive to Ostend where thanks to Jean we are hatching a plan for the day to include a visit to the only remaining part of the Atlantic Wall some drives round and a place for lunch.

More to follow

It Sounds great I must get the 280 project finished so I can come along.

When it comes to a three day trip to Nomanday please give me a ring as I used to do guided tours of the part of the coast etc.

Well guys I would like to suggest Sat 11th May for this day trip. After discussing with Rudy the best plan will be cross over to France on the Tunnel, drive the 50 odd miles to Ostend and meet up with Rudy followed by a day of some spirited drives, visit the Atlantic Wall museum, lunch and bit of shopping and back to Blighty. Costs of the crossing are in the ball part of £60.

I am planning to do a quick recce and meet up in Belgium with Rudy in the interim.

So can those that have expressed interest check their diaries and confirm here and I will put up the general plan in the next couple of days

What a great idea!

I would love to do this but I'm up in Scotland for the first
two weeks of May

Might be interested in a late summer trip if it doesn't
work out too expensive!

Will you all get up the ferry ramps without losing your
front spoiler I wonder!
