Britcar Production Cup Fiasco

Having just taken part in the Britcar Production race at Donnington park(13-4-2013) as a mechanic. I am compelled to write about what a fiasco the event was. As we where running in class 2 obviously during the race as all teams know you keep an eye on what the rest of the class is doing as these are the ones you are racing against for the class points/honours. Having crossed the line at the end of the race in 3rd in class the drivers headed to the podium only to be told they wasn't needed as they had finished 4th BUT all the timing screens and official results showed that we had finished 3rd. How ever according to Britcar a team had been put down from class 1 to class 2 after the morning Qualifying and no one had been informed meaning that class 2 teams allowed this car to pass as they where not fighting for class points. The teams only found out about this in park ferme. As you can imagine there was a lot of angry teams. But as usual Britcar shrugged their shoulders as they did last year with the Bhp performance and said we will look at classes at the next round (what a joke). This spoilt a good race for a lot of teams and I am sure a lot of teams will agree. Just to make a point we do this as a team that have full time jobs that are not involved in motorsport and take unpaid leave from work to go racing so to make theses types of sacrifices and to be denied a podium due to a disorganised championship leaves a very bitter taste.
Utterly pathetic by britcar, try marshalling at the races, I won't be doing it again! Cr4p management and organisation, why the msa allow championships to run for that long with tiny grids is beyond me, the stupid thing is if they combined all 3 grids and had a 4 hour race it would be pretty good
TBH I think Britcar generally do a good job, I assume your talking about the Wolf Supercopa in class 2 which is a total pizz take, the car was, and still is, class one all day, but Britcar have to trust what competitors are telling them about power to weight. Moving their own car down to class 2 is clearly pot hunting thats all, if that was me I wouldnt feel that I had won a thing.

I agree hazy that car is mega even with the slowest driver in it WHY its in class 2 I have no idea.We got kept behind after Qualifying because we where running aero on are G40 (someone !!!! had a quiet word READ THE RULES pal we can run aero, plus I never once moan about you running a few more ponies last season your not even in are class this year)

My car is pretty much bog standard and should be in class 2, we haven't had the time to get out to practice this year, we only managed a few laps in qualifying because of an engine malfunction but we did do well in the race, Adam Jones is a top draw driver and as a well turned out team hope we add something to BritCar. After the race I elected to go back to class one. there is some really snipping comments here that are not nice and I'm defiantly not a pot hunter.

And we could all have gone home at 5pm.I've marshalled this event for two years and both times we have been v short of marshals. They will be short of one more next year as well.

With reference to my original posting I would like to emphasise that the point I am making is the disorganisation of the championship and in no way reflects on any of the teams. Our drivers really enjoyed the close but fair racing on Saturday but our strategy would have been different if we had known exactly who we were racing against in our class.
Must back up Craig here as a fellow although less well equiped Supercopa pilot myself. If you guys take a look at the lap times, the other big turbo cars are pretty much just as fast (ones only 3 tenths off). Infact I'd say they were the same based on driver experience. The Sub Zero car can fit class 2 if it chose!!!
The bigger issue is how can class 1 and class 2 cars be the same pace with a driver of Jones calibre at the wheel!

Im certainly not sniping mate, I apologize if you see it that way, Im just saying it as I see it, its a great car with good drivers and a good team and I welcome the stiff competition, but standard engine?? 300bhp standard arent they? Come on pull the other one fella!! 
I know what my car and Symons car has and you pipped us both to fastest lap!
Anyways, glad you had the decency to move the car up yourself, its clearly a class 1 car, I think it will be another year of great racing, with the overall winner coming from one of five or six cars every race!
There are 2 types of standard Supercopa engine output Hazy.
One has 300hp like ours and Track-torque's which is via the standard road car turbo at max potential.
The other is an upgrade from Seat which starts at 330hp but with the potential for 400hp plus via bigger turbo and various other associated upgrades. However a supercopa on a DSG gearbox can only take about 330hp reliably so none of them will run much more than that.
Its an easy one to police, if they have the bigger turbo they have to be over 300hp simples.
In any event, they all fit the class 2 rules which is particularly nice for those us with standard cars!

The difference between the class one Supercopas, Cunningham, Wolf, and the other cars is fairly obvious in the lap times, similar difference between the BMWs, mine, Cox's really, I think there will be some great racing this year and the changes to regs have levelled the playing field IMO.
Its interesting to me how such different cars in the Supercopa and M3's can be so close in performance and lap times!! Production has turned into a 90 minute sprint race LOL!!
